Inleiding
Tegen de noordelijke muur van de R.K. H. Willibrorduskerk te Demen staat op de privé-begraafplaats van de familie Van den Bergh het in neogotische stijl uitgevoerde GRAFMONUMENT van P.A.M. van den Bergh, daterend uit omstreeks 1858. Het opstaande kruis is later toegevoegd.
Omschrijving
Het monument heeft een zandstenen, neo-gotisch gedetailleerd, in plattegrond vierkant basement met verdiepte velden en een over- hoeks bekronende sokkel, waarop een natuurstenen kruis is opge- steld. Op de sokkel vindt men langs de lijsten restanten van groene verf. De inscriptie op de voorzijde van de sokkel luidt: "R.I.P. / Petronella / Arnolda Maria / Van den Bergh". Op de westelijke zijde de deels door beschadigingen onleesbare inscrip- tie: "geb. te Demen / den / (...)", en aan de oostelijke zijde: "Aldaar overleden / den / 1 april 1858".

Het object is van belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van een geestelijke ontwikkeling en wegens het bijzondere materiaalge- bruik en de ornamentiek.

Against the northern wall of the R.K. H. Willibrorduskerk at Demen, on the private burial ground of the Van den Bergh family, stands the FUNERAL MONUMENT of P.A.M. van den Bergh, executed in neo-gothic style, dating from around 1858. The upright cross was added later.
Description
The monument has a sandstone, neo-gothic detailed, square basement in ground plan with recessed fields and a diagonally positioned crowning base, on which a natural stone cross is erected. On the base one finds along the mouldings remnants of green paint. The inscription on the front of the base reads: "R.I.P. / Petronella / Arnolda Maria / Van den Bergh". On the western side the partly illegible inscription due to damage: "born at Demen / on / (...)", and on the eastern side: "Died there / on / 1 April 1858".
Valuation
The object is of significance as a particular expression of a spiritual development and on account of the particular material use and ornamentation.
