Inleiding

Introduction

The LONGHOUSE FARMSTEAD Landzicht was built in 1907 to replace an older cruk farmstead. The farmstead, which is accessed via a drive, is situated on the east side of the Vecht, east of Fort Nieuwersluis in the Mijnden Polder. A wide ditch runs along the left side of the farmstead. Due to its location within the so-called Forbidden Zones around Fort Nieuwersluis, the farmstead was built of timber. The 1853 Forbidden Zones Act stipulated that in the immediate vicinity of fortifications no building was permitted or only in timber. The roof dormer on the left side of the roof of the residential section is a later addition (falls outside protection).

Description

The partly cellared farmstead on a rectangular ground plan consists of one storey under a gabled roof, covered with furrowed roof tiles in a cross pattern. The gabled roof of the rear section has a lower ridge and eaves height than that of the front section and is covered with plastic roofing in the form of furrowed improved Dutch tiles. The roof gutter is supported by carved wooden blocks. The gables are of timber. The front section or residential part on a brick base has vertical board cladding of beaded strips with sawtooth termination at the junction between ground floor and attic storey; the rear section has horizontal board cladding of rabbet strips. The timber work of the gables is painted grey except for the rear gable, which is tarred black. Frames, gutters on blocks and collar ties with plate and beam are painted white. Windows, shutters and doors are painted green.

The symmetrically arranged front gable (west side) is framed by simple collar ties with plate and beam. On the ground floor there are three six-pane sash windows with shutters, with below the left sash window a cellar light with theft bars and shutters. On the attic storey an angel window has been installed with a fanlight in the form of a herringbone arch in the centre. In the right side gable of the front section there is on the right a panelled door with fanlight. The left side gable contains a six-pane sash window with shutters and a cellar light as on the front. The rear section has stable windows with arched wooden frame sashes. The rear gable contains a door with fanlight in the centre and on the right and left a clamped stable door. On the attic storey a four-pane casement window has been installed. At the rear on the left by the ditch stands a wooden privy under a catslide roof. The interior has retained its original layout with in the front left of the residential section a cellar with room above.

Valuation

The property is of general importance because of its cultural and architectural-historical value as an example of a longhouse farmstead, as well as the intactness of the principal form, gable arrangement and detailing and in particular because of its material use. Also because of its ensemble value as part of the timber-built structures within the Forbidden Zones around Fort Nieuwersluis. Finally, because of its landscape value through the prominent situation in the pastureland of the Mijnden Polder.
