Omschrijving
Omschrijving complexonderdeel 1

Description
Description of complex component 1
The BRIDGE, called Cronenburgherbrug, executed in Sachlich Expressionist style, is situated in the Bloklaan over the Vecht. The bridge consists of three parts, namely a double steel bascule bridge between two fixed masonry corbel arch water passages. The brickwork of red brick in stretcher bond is provided with granite coping plates. The pier cellar bases of the bascule bridge section are clad with granite plates. On top of the piers stand on a rectangular granite plinth a high narrow lantern of glass and steel with the factory mark of the Winkelman company from Amsterdam. On the outside of these plinths the coat of arms of the province of Utrecht is applied, namely two red lions with two white crosses. The bascule bridge has steel railings of tubular profile. Along the fixed bridge sections steel railings are placed of tubular profile on a granite base. On three sides the railing connects to a masonry abutment, which ends in a masonry bench provided with a granite seat with a round pillar-shaped termination and a flower box placed transversely on it. On the fourth side (north-east side) the abutment connects to the bridge keeper's dwelling. In both bridge cellars there are counterweights of riveted steel with an electrically driven gear mechanism.
Valuation of complex component 1
The bridge is of general importance because of its cultural and architectural historical value as a fair example in terms of main form, detailing and material use of a double bascule bridge between two fixed masonry water passages, built in 1933 after a design by architect F. van Laren in Sachlich Expressionist style with four lanterns from the construction period. Also because of the important ensemble value through the spatial and functional coherence with the other complex components.
