KAPELLAAN 1/KLOKSTRAAT 10
Inleiding.
WOONHUIS met BEDRIJF, uurwerkfabriekje, gebouwd in 1926 in Overgangsstijl. Het pand ligt op de hoek van de Kapellaan en de Klokstraat, nabij de kern van Aarle-Rixtel.
Aan het bedrijfsgedeelte zijn enkele delen toegevoegd die niet beschermd worden.
Omschrijving.
Het geheel bestaat uit een tweelaags woonhuis aan de Kapellaan met aanbouw aan de Klokstraat. Het huis heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond en een zadeldak waarvan de nok evenwijdig aan de straat loopt. Tegen de rechterzijgevel is een kleine uitbouw met een lagere topgevel geplaatst. De voorgevel is aan de rechterkant voorzien van een topgevel, links daarvan is de verdieping terugliggend met een loggia, aangebracht. Het pand is uitgevoerd in baksteen, vanaf de verdieping is het bepleisterd en witgeverfd. In de topgevels opzij van het huis is betimmerd houtwerk zichtbaar. Aan de voorzijde is de topgevel betimmerd, eronder is het opschrift "De Klok A.D. 1782" aangebracht.
Het dak is voorzien van een overstek en windveren, het is gedekt met Hollandse pannen. Boven de loggia steunt het dak op houten palen, ertussen is een ijzeren sierhek aangebracht. In de gevel zijn T-ramen en kruisvensters geplaatst, de bovenlichten zijn voorzijn van glas-in-lood. De segmentbogen boven de ramen, alsmede de vensterbanken eronder zijn uitgevoerd in rode strengperssteen. In de boogvelden zijn geglazuurde tegels aangebracht. De toegang wordt gevormd door een paneeldeur.
Voor en opzij van het huis is een smalle stoep aangebracht, van de straat gescheiden door een smeedijzeren hekwerk. Haaks op deze bouwmassa is aan de Klokstraat een éénlaags bedrijfspand geplaatst, dit gedeelte heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond onder zadeldak. Het geheel steekt een klein stukje uit ten opzichte van de zijgevel van het woonhuis.
Het bedrijfspand is uitgevoerd in cementsteen en voorzien van een imitatie rustica plint. De bovenkant van de gevel is voorzien van een muizetand, uitgevoerd in rode baksteen die om de topgevels doorloopt. Het dak is gedekt met Hollandse pannen. De gevel aansluitend aan het huis is getrapt uitgevoerd.
In de zijgevel zijn vier brede getoogde ramen aangebracht, voorzien van een rode bakstenen middenstijl en segmentboog. De kozijnen zijn uitgevoerd in metaal en voorzien van voorzetramen. In de achtergevel bevinden zich lage ramen onder een segmentboog, het boogveld is betegeld.
Waardering.
Het bedrijfsgebouw met aanbouw en hekwerk is van algemeen belang. Het gebouw heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling van de klokkengieterij en de uurwerkfabricage en als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van de gebouwen voor deze tak van nijverheid. Het is architectuurhistorisch van belang vanwege de stijl en de bijzondere combinatie van bouwmaterialen. Het gebouw is tevens van belang vanwege de gaafheid van het exterieur. Introduction.
RESIDENCE WITH BUSINESS, a watch factory, built in 1926 in Transitional style. The building is located on the corner of the Kapellaan and the Klokstraat, near the centre of Aarle-Rixtel.
Some parts have been added to the business section which are not protected.
Description.
The whole consists of a two-storey residence on the Kapellaan with an extension on the Klokstraat. The house has a rectangular plan and a gabled roof with the ridge parallel to the street. Against the right side facade is a small outbuilding with a lower end gable. The front facade has an end gable on the right side, to the left of which the upper storey is set back with a loggia arranged. The building is constructed in brick, from the upper storey it is plastered and whitewashed. In the end gables on the sides of the house timber framing is visible. On the front the end gable is timber-framed, below it the inscription "De Klok A.D. 1782" has been placed.
The roof has an overhang and wind braces, it is covered with Dutch tiles. Above the loggia the roof is supported on wooden posts, between them an iron ornamental railing has been placed. The facade contains T-windows and cross windows, the fanlights are fitted with leaded glass. The segmental arches above the windows, as well as the window sills below are executed in red pressed brick. Glazed tiles have been placed in the spandrels. Access is formed by a panelled door.
A narrow stoep has been placed in front and to the side of the house, separated from the street by a wrought-iron railing. At right angles to this building mass a single-storey business building has been placed on the Klokstraat, this section has a rectangular plan under a gabled roof. The whole projects slightly in relation to the side facade of the residence.
The business building is constructed in cement stone and provided with an imitation rustica plinth. The top of the facade is provided with a brick dentil course, executed in red brick which runs around the end gables. The roof is covered with Dutch tiles. The facade adjoining the house is stepped.
In the side facade four broad arched windows have been placed, provided with a red brick centre mullion and segmental arch. The frames are executed in metal and fitted with secondary windows. In the rear facade there are low windows under a segmental arch, the spandrel is tiled.
Valuation.
The business building with extension and railings is of general importance. The building has cultural-historical significance as an example of the socio-economic development of bell-founding and watch-making and as an example of the typological development of buildings for this branch of industry. It is architecturally significant because of the style and the special combination of building materials. The building is also significant because of the integrity of its exterior. It is rare because of its design and construction.
