The register's description

Complex Koestraat 35-41 Oirschot (5): On the western side of the complex of convent buildings stands one of the schools served by the Franciscan sisters: the H. ENGELBEWAARDERSCHOOL, a block-shaped complex, built in 1933 in circa 1800 style, according to drawings by Jan Stuyt. The building line of the school facade is situated somewhat closer to the street than that of the convent. Around 1940 the bicycle shed located on the north side of the playground was converted into a nursery school. These are now in use as studios. Various institutions are housed in the school.

Description: The two-storey brick school building has an L-shaped ground plan and actually consists of two parts: a boys' and a girls' school, with separate entrances in the western and eastern facades. It is covered by gabled roofs, fitted with end half-hipped roofs, a substantial overhang on corbels and improved Dutch tiles. The building has a symmetrically arranged front facade of sixteen window bays. The building line of the middle section of the facade, with four composite wooden cross windows on the ground floor and first floor (with single fanlight on the first floor, double below), is set back somewhat in relation to the cellared corner risalits. In the risalits the innermost window bays, with panel doors with four-part fanlight, are flanked by composite wooden cross windows. In the left risalit, in the middle wall panel there is an empty tufa stone image with two stones: a diamond-shaped one on which, in gold colour on a black background, "Ao Di", and in a round stone "S F" is written. These texts are complemented in the right risalit, where on identical stones the text: "1933" and "A" appears. The tall and wide cross windows are the classroom windows; similar windows can also be seen at the back of the building, on the side of the tiled playground. The building has a central corridor running between the rooms. Panel doors under canopies provide access to the school. In the north-eastern part of the rear facade is a porch with stairwell. The entrance is located in the western and eastern facade; the door has a three-part fanlight and is set in a tufa stone frame with pronounced keystone. The former bicycle shed behind, now in use as studios, has been converted into five classrooms. To this end, on a simple brick base, above which is a wooden wall with opening six-pane windows and doors.

Valuation: The school is of general importance. The building has cultural-historical value as an example of a spiritual development, namely the flourishing of orders and congregations in the early twentieth century and is also important as an example of the typological development of the congregation convent annex boarding school shortly after 1900. The school building is of architectural-historical importance because of the style with which the architects Cuypers and Stuyt brought about a break with the traditional Catholic institutional style through their use of materials and ornamentation. It has ensemble values as part of a complex of convent, chapel, schools and rector's house and the role in the silhouette of the place. As a large and coherent convent complex it has become relatively rare.
