Inleiding
Het HEILIG HARTBEELD bevindt zich aan de westzijde van een grasplantsoen, dat het centrum vormt van het Kerkplein, dat wordt omgeven door de R.K. Bavokerk met bijbehorende pastorie, een klooster en twee scholen. Het neogotische beeld, naar ontwerp van beeldhouwer J. Custers, werd in 1927 geplaatst.
Omschrijving
Het betonnen Heilig Hartbeeld is geplaatst op een ovaalvormig bakstenen podium, waarop een smeedijzeren sierhek. Aan de voorzijde (zuidzijde) van dit podium een brede trap met gebogen treden. Aan de noordwestelijke zijde van dit podium een kelkvormig betonnen basement. Hierboven het witgeschilderde beeld. Voorgesteld is Christus met uitgespreide armen, gekleed in een gewaad met diepe plooien. Hij staat op een wolk, waarop aan de voorzijde een kelk en de passiewerktuigen zijn afgebeeld.
Waardering
Het Heilig Hartbeeld is van algemeen belang. Het beeld bezit cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een geestelijke ontwikkeling, namelijk de ontwikkeling van de Heilig Hartdevotie in het Interbellum. Het Heilig Hartbeeld heeft kunsthistorische waarde, vanwege de toegepaste neogotische vormentaal en detaillering. Voorts is het representatief voor het werk van de beeldhouwer J. Custers. Het beeld bezit ensemblewaarde vanwege de bijzondere ligging op een plein dat wordt omgeven door kerkelijke gebouwen en is van belang voor het aanzien van dit plein - gesitueerd in de historische kern van Raamsdonk.
