Inleiding.
Voormalig BRANDSPUITHUISJE annex GEVANGENIScel uit omstreeks 1910 in Ambachtelijk-traditionele bouwtrant. Het object is centraal en goed bereikbaar gelegen in de kom van het kerkdorp Dorst in de nabijheid van de Rijksweg van Breda naar Tilburg. Het is met de noklijn van het dak evenwijdig aan de straat gelegen en behoort bij de brandweerkazerne aan Kapelerf 2. Het is niet meer in gebruik.
Omschrijving.
Het in kruisverband gemetselde brandspuithuisje annex gevangeniscel beslaat een rechthoekige plattegrond en telt één bouwlaag en een kapverdieping onder een met gesmoorde bouletpannen gedekt zadeldak. Straatgevel van twee traveeën met onderlangs een gepleisterde plint en bovenlangs een geprofileerde, overstekende goot op bakstenen klossen, opgenomen in een muizentandlijst van gele verblendsteen.
Gevelopeningen onder rond- en segmentboog met gecementeerde aanzet en sluitstenen. Dubbele, opgeklampte inrijpoort met smeedijzeren beslagwerk in de rechter travee. Steekankers. Linker gevel met opgeklampte entreedeur onder rondboog met detaillering als voornoemd, en een ventilatieopening. Steekankers. In de achtergevel twee betraliede valvensters onder rollaag en met bakstenen afzaten. Rechter gevel blind.
In de ruimte achter de dubbele inrijpoort van de rechter travee was onder andere een mobiele brandspuit gestationeerd waarmee men in geval van brand snel ter plekke kon komen. De spuit werd bediend door de vrijwillige brandweer. Dit deel wordt door een muur afgescheiden van de linker travee, indertijd gebruikt als cel waarin wetsovertreders tijdelijk in verzekerde bewaring werden genomen.
Waardering.
Het voormalige brandspuithuisje annex gevangeniscel is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde. Het is van belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de sociale en bestuurlijke ontwikkeling van stad en dorp aan het begin van de twintigste eeuw. Daarnaast is het van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van brandspuithuisjes en gevangeniscellen. Het object heeft ensemblewaarden. Het is van belang als markant onderdeel van de historische bebouwing aan het kapelerf en de historisch-functionele samenhang met de brandweerkazerne aan Kapelerf 2. Daarnaast is het van belang vanwege de stedenbouwkundige situering op een centraal gelegen, gemakkelijk bereikbare locatie in het centrum van Dorst.
Het object heeft zeldzaamheidswaarde vanwege de unieke combinatie van functies en omdat veel brandspuithuisjes in Noord-Brabant in de loop der tijd zijn verdwenen.

Introduction.
Former FIRE BRIGADE STATION HOUSE with PRISON CELL from around 1910 in Artisanal-traditional building style. The object is centrally and easily accessible situated in the centre of the village of Dorst in the vicinity of the national road from Breda to Tilburg. It is situated with the roof ridge parallel to the street and belongs to the fire brigade barracks at Kapelerf 2. It is no longer in use.
Description.
The cross-bonded fire brigade station house with prison cell has a rectangular plan and comprises one storey and a roof storey beneath a mansard roof covered with suppressed Boulet tiles. Street facade of two bays with below a plastered plinth and above a profiled, projecting gutter on brick corbels, included in a mouse-tooth moulding of yellow decorative brick.
Facade openings under round and segmental arches with cemented base and keystones. Double, attached carriage entrance doors with decorative ironwork in the right bay. Steekankers. Left facade with attached entrance door under round arch with detailing as aforementioned, and a ventilation opening. Steekankers. In the rear facade two barred fall windows under roll course and with brick offsets. Right facade blind.
In the space behind the double carriage entrance doors of the right bay was stationed, among other things, a mobile fire pump with which one could quickly reach the scene in case of fire. The pump was operated by the volunteer fire brigade. This section is separated by a wall from the left bay, formerly used as a cell in which offenders were temporarily held in custody.

The former fire brigade station house with prison cell is of general importance. The object has cultural-historical value. It is important as a special expression of the social and administrative development of city and village at the beginning of the twentieth century. Furthermore, it is important for the typological development of fire brigade station houses and prison cells. The object has ensemble values. It is important as a striking component of the historical building stock at Kapelerf and the historical-functional relationship with the fire brigade barracks at Kapelerf 2. Furthermore, it is important on account of the urban design situation in a centrally located, easily accessible location in the centre of Dorst.
The object has rarity value on account of the unique combination of functions and because many fire brigade station houses in North Brabant have disappeared over time.
