Inleiding.
THEATER, in de open lucht gelegen, aangelegd in 1936 door een aannemer naar schetsplannen van H.W. Valk. Het geheel bevindt zich in een bosrijk natuurgebied met hoofdzakelijk dennenbos. De aanleg hangt samen met de promotie van Oisterwijk als toeristenplaats en de bevordering van het Brabants amateurtoneel. In de jaren zeventig is hier een vijftal beelden geplaatst van de hand van T. van de Wiel, afkomstig van het gesloopte gebouw De Kunstkring, dat in het Interbellum ook al eens was verbouwd door H.W. Valk.
Omschrijving.
Het theater is toegankelijk via een toegangspoort, welke bestaat uit een hek tussen twee bakstenen sokkels bekroond met tufstenen beeldengroepen. Op de linkersokkel de tekst 'Natuur Theater', op de rechter '1936'. De beelden stellen voor scènes uit 'Van den Vos Reinaerde' met onder meer vos, beer en raaf.
Op het terrein een halfcirkelvormig in een zandrug gesitueerd theater met 10 rijen met totaal 1030 in baksteen genummerde plaatsen, die recent voorzien zijn van kunststof kuipstoeltjes. Aan de buitenring van het amphitheater vijf in rode terracotta uitgevoerde beelden uit 1938, vervaardigd door Toon van de Wiel, afkostig van het in de jaren zeventig door nieuwbouw vervangen gebouw De Kunstkring aan de Stationsstraat, een ontwerp van H.W. Valk.
Tussen ingang en theater ligt een tweetal uit ruw hout opgetrokken blokhutten op bakstenen onderbouw. Blinde zijgevels, fors overstekend zadeldak met Oudhollandse pannen, opgeklampte deuren in de voor- en achtergevels en schuiframen met kleine roedenverdeling. Tevens een zwerfkei met de tekst 'Ghesellen van den Spele' en ingehakt het programma vanaf 1930.
Waardering.
Het openluchttheater is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als vertegenwoordiger van de culturele ontwikkeling en de toeristische uitbating van Oisterwijk en als herinnering aan de ontwikkeling van het amateurtoneel in Noord-Brabant in het Interbellum. Het heeft ensemblewaarde vanwege de relatie tussen het geaccidenteerde beboste terrein en de aanleg van het amphitheater in een zandrug. Het is als voorbeeld van een vooroorlogs openluchttheater uitermate zeldzaam.

THEATER, situated in the open air, laid out in 1936 by a contractor following sketch plans by H.W. Valk. The whole is situated in a wooded natural area consisting mainly of pine forest. The layout is connected with the promotion of Oisterwijk as a tourist destination and the promotion of amateur theatre in Brabant. In the nineteen-seventies five sculptures by T. van de Wiel were placed here, originating from the demolished building De Kunstkring, which had already been renovated by H.W. Valk in the Interwar period.
Description.
The theatre is accessible via an entrance gate, which consists of a gate between two brick plinths crowned with tufa stone sculptural groups. On the left plinth the text 'Natuur Theater', on the right '1936'. The sculptures represent scenes from 'Van den Vos Reinaerde' including fox, bear and raven.
On the grounds a semicircular theatre situated in a sand ridge with 10 rows totalling 1030 brick-numbered seats, which have recently been fitted with plastic bucket seats.
