Omschrijving
POORTGEBOUW behorende tot de buitenplaats Slot Zuylen. De toegang van de voorburcht wordt gevormd door een 16de-eeuws bakstenen poortgebouw in laatgotische stijl. Het op vierkante grondslag opgetrokken pand met toogvormige doorgang bestaat uit twee bouwlagen onder een hoog opgaand met leien gedekt schilddak bekroond door twee pinakels. Boven de doorgang een omlopende natuurstenen waterlijst; in de doorgang een kruisribgewelf. In de noordgevel aan weerszijden van de doorgang twee wapenschilden en op de verdieping een kruisvenster met traliewerk. De gevel aan deze zijde is bekroond door een gemetselde borstwering (pseudo-weergang) waarop twee natuurstenen leeuwtjes. In de zuidgevel naast de doorgang een houten deurtje waarboven een vensterlicht en op de verdieping een a-symmetrisch geplaatst kloostervenster in natuurstenen omlijsting. Vanaf de daklijst loopt een brede trapsgewijs gemetselde schoorsteen. Aan weerskanten van het poortgebouw op de walkanten een kwartrond ijzeren spijlenhek. In het INTERIEUR een zandstenen Gotische schouw met heraldische versieringen; ingericht met speciaal voor deze ruimte ontworpen meubilair van Gerrit Rietveld (vroegste voorbeeld) in 1906.

Description
GATEHOUSE belonging to the country estate Slot Zuylen. The access to the forecasement is formed by a 16th-century brick gatehouse in late Gothic style. The building erected on a square ground plan with an arched passageway consists of two storeys beneath a high hipped roof covered with slate tiles crowned by two pinacles. Above the passageway a surrounding natural stone drip moulding; in the passageway a cross-ribbed vault. In the north facade on either side of the passageway two coats of arms and on the upper storey a cross window with lattice work. The facade on this side is crowned by a brick breastwork (pseudo-battlement) on which rest two natural stone lions. In the south facade beside the passageway a wooden door with a window light above and on the upper storey an asymmetrically placed cloister window in a natural stone frame. From the roof line runs a broad stepped brick chimney. On either side of the gatehouse on the rampart an iron railing with spokes. In the INTERIOR a sandstone Gothic fireplace with heraldic decoration; furnished with furniture specially designed for this space by Gerrit Rietveld (earliest example) in 1906.
