Omschrijving
PARKAANLEG, in oorsprong XVI; bestaande uit a. gracht met eilanden b. lanen en bosjes c. akker en weiland. Ad a. de gracht, met hier en daar een forse breedte, heeft een 8 -plattegrond, waardoor er twee eilanden zijn, die door een brug (zie onder 4) met elkaar verbonden zijn; op het zuidelijke eiland staat aan de westrand het kasteel, dat vanuit het water aangeaard is; op het met grind verharde kasteelplein staan enkele markante oude solitairbomen, waaronder een linde en een rode beuk; het andere eiland is langs drie randen geheel bebouwd met de U-vormige boerderij (zie onder 3); alleen de zijde naar het kasteel is open (zuid); de met veel beton verharde binnenplaats heeft geen beschermenswaardige inrichting; ook de boerderij is vanuit de gracht aangeaard. Ad b. de Retersbekerweg, hoewel openbaar, is vanwege de laanbeplanting met oude eiken meegenomen in de bescherming; aan weerszijden een enkele rij monumentale zomereiken; een dwars hierop staande rij zelfde eiken sluit de akker ten zuiden van het kasteel af; deze rij sluit aan bij de smalle bosstrook (populieren en sparren), die langs de Retersbeek naar het noordoosten loopt; dit bosje staat op de plek waar vroeger (tot de jaren 50 van de 20e eeuw) een langgerekte vijver lag; aan de verdiepte ligging van het terrein is dit te herkennen. In de bocht van de Retersbekerweg, ten noorden van de gracht ligt een bosje met gemengde loofhoutbeplanting; het is eerder een brede singel; in de oosthoek ligt een verlande vierkante vijver; aan de zuidkant langs dit bosje voert een korte oprijlaan vanaf de weg naar de binnenplaats van de boerderij - en verder via de tweede brug (zie onder 4) naar het kasteel; de korte laan heeft een puinverharding en aan weerszijden een rijtje van 5 eiken. Ad c. direct ten zuiden van de korte oprit en tussen de Retersbekerweg en het kasteel ligt een weiland met nog enkele fruitbomen en langs de gracht wat struiken; wellicht was hier vroeger een boomgaard en/of moestuin; de grote akker langs de weg en ten zuiden van het kasteel was tot in de jaren 60 van de 20e eeuw een boomgaard.

Description
PARK LAYOUT, originally XVI; consisting of a. moat with islands b. avenues and small woods c. field and meadow. Ad a. the moat, with here and there considerable width, has a figure-eight ground plan, whereby there are two islands, which are connected to each other by a bridge (see below 4); on the southern island stands on the west edge the castle, which is built up from the water; on the gravel-surfaced castle courtyard stand several distinctive old solitary trees, including a lime tree and a red beech; the other island is built along three sides entirely with the U-shaped farmhouse (see below 3); only the side facing the castle is open (south); the inner courtyard, much of which is surfaced with concrete, has no protected fixtures; the farmhouse too is built up from the moat. Ad b. the Retersbekerweg, although public, is included in the protection because of the avenue planting with old oaks; on both sides a single row of monumental summer oaks; a row of the same oaks standing transversely closes off the field to the south of the castle; this row adjoins the narrow wood strip (poplars and spruces), which runs along the Retersbeek towards the northeast; this wood stands on the spot where formerly (until the 1950s) a long-drawn-out pond lay; this is recognisable from the sunken location of the terrain. In the bend of the Retersbekerweg, to the north of the moat, lies a small wood with mixed deciduous planting; it is rather a broad belt; in the east corner lies a silted up square pond; on the south side along this wood runs a short approach drive from the road to the inner courtyard of the farmhouse - and further via the second bridge (see below 4) to the castle; the short avenue has a rubble surface and on both sides a row of 5 oaks. Ad c. directly to the south of the short approach and between the Retersbekerweg and the castle lies a meadow with still some fruit trees and along the moat some shrubs; perhaps here formerly was an orchard and/or kitchen garden; the large field along the road and to the south of the castle was until the 1960s an orchard.
