Inleiding
De Hartel, het in 1921-1922 gebouwde landhuis, is voor ir. J.H.H. Verloop (directeur scheepswerf Feyenoord te Rotterdam) ontworpen door architect M.E. Bruijnzeel uit Rotterdam. Sedert de voltooiing is het pand nauwelijks gewijzigd.
Omschrijving
In baksteen opgetrokken landhuis op onregelmatige plattegrond, bestaande uit één bouwlaag en kapverdieping. De kap is gedekt met riet en voorzien van dakkapellen. Het huis is gedeeltelijk onderkelderd. De asymmetrisch opgebouwde en ingedeelde gevels zijn voorzien van verschillende deur- en vensterpartijen. De ramen zijn voorzien van roeden en luiken. Aan details, zoals de indeling van de luiken, de vormgeving van de entreepartij met natuursteen en een ingebouwde lantaarn, de hijsbalk enz., is veel aandacht besteed. De gaaf bewaarde plattegrond heeft een vrije indeling waarbij de verschillende vertrekken óf via de centrale hal of via elkaar bereikbaar zijn. De hal loopt door in de kapverdieping. De kamers zijn voorzien van allerlei oorspronkelijke onderdelen en materialen zoals betimmeringen, kasten, schouwen, 'inglehook' (haardnis), deuren en deuromlijstingen, sanitair enz.
