Inleiding.
Voormalig RAADHUIS in late Neo-Classicistische stijl uit 1923, tot stand gekomen door verbouwing van een openbare school. De school werd in 1872 gebouwd samen met een onderwijzerswoning. In 1895 waren er vier afzonderlijke lokalen, in 1914 uitgebreid tot zes. Het raadhuis ligt in de kom van het dorp met voor- of noordgevel aan de St. Bavostraat.
Bij de verbouwing tot raadhuis werd in de oostelijke vleugel een brand- spuitenhuis ingericht. Nu is hier de kamer van de burgemeester. In de jaren zestig van de 20ste eeuw werd aan de zuidkant het raadhuis uitgebreid met een nieuwe secretarie. Dit gedeelte valt buiten de bescherming.
Omschrijving.
Het langwerpige raadhuis dat één bouwlaag bevat, heeft een schilddak met aan de westkant een tuitgevel en aan de oostkant een dakschild. Het dak heeft hoekschoorstenen en in het midden een achtzijdig opengewerkt torentje met luidklok.
De ramen zijn kruisvensters met een vierentwintig-ruitsverdeling. Het dak is belegd met de Tuile du Nord, het torentje met leien. Oorspronkelijk was de voorgevel van het raadhuis symmetrisch van opzet en zeven traveeën breed. Na het bijtrekken van het brandspuitenhuis rond ca. 1950 zijn het er negen geworden. De westelijke zijgevel heeft twee traveen. De oostgevel is blind. Het raadhuis ligt in zijn geheel op een basement van robuust pleisterwerk. De monumentale ingang heeft een bordes met balustrade en aan weerskanten een trap. De ingang wordt geaccentueerd door een driehoekig fronton gedragen door vier pilasters. In het fronton het gemeentewapen van Rijsbergen en het jaartal 1923. De gevels zijn voorzien van blokpleisterwerk met hoekpilasters, een zware kroonlijst en fries. Rond de muuropeningen geprofileerde stuclijsten met een sluitsteen als bekroning.
Waardering.
Het raadhuis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van een bestuurlijke en sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, namelijk de stichting van gebouwen voor het plaatselijk bestuur in de bestaande structuur, het is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het raadhuis op het platteland. Description
Introduction.
Former TOWN HALL in late Neo-Classical style from 1923, created by conversion of a public school. The school was built in 1872 together with a schoolmaster's residence. In 1895 there were four separate classrooms, expanded to six in 1914. The town hall is situated in the village centre with front or north facade on the St. Bavostraat.
During the conversion to town hall, a fire engine house was fitted out in the eastern wing. Now this is the mayor's office. In the nineteen-sixties an extension to the town hall was added on the south side with a new secretariat. This section falls outside the protection.
Description.
The elongated town hall, which has one storey, has a hipped roof with a spout gable on the west side and a roof panel on the east side. The roof has corner chimneys and in the middle an octagonal openwork turret with a bell.
The windows are cross windows with twenty-four-pane glazing. The roof is covered with Tuile du Nord, the turret with slate. Originally the front facade of the town hall was symmetrical in design and seven bays wide. After the incorporation of the fire engine house around 1950, there are now nine. The western side facade has two bays. The east facade is blind. The town hall as a whole stands on a basement of robust plasterwork. The monumental entrance has a landing with balustrade and a staircase on either side. The entrance is emphasised by a triangular pediment supported by four pilasters. In the pediment the municipal coat of arms of Rijsbergen and the date 1923. The facades are provided with block plasterwork with corner pilasters, a heavy cornice and frieze. Round the wall openings are moulded stucco cornices with a keystone as crowning.

The town hall is of general importance. It has cultural-historical significance as an example of administrative and socio-economic development, namely the establishment of buildings for local government within the existing structure, it is also of significance as an example of the typological development of the town hall in the countryside.
