Inleiding
Ten westen van kazemat 434 staat op de zuidelijke kade van het Defensiekanaal de S (3a) KAZEMAT 435, daterende uit 1939-1940.
De wal is ter plaatse aan de zijde van het kanaal gedeeltelijk afgegraven.
Omschrijving
De S-kazemat kan frontaal en flankerend vuur op het kanaal en het voorterrein. Direct ten westen stond achter de linie de B (270a) kazemat 436, die middels een coupure in de wal in staat was in noordoostelijke richting het voorterrein met zwaar mitrailleurvuur te bestrijken. Deze kazemat is gesloopt. De kazemat 435 is gaaf bewaard gebleven en vertoont geen gevechtsschade.
Waardering
De kazemat is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de versterking en daaropvolgende verdediging van Nederland tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en is als zodanig een belangrijk document van de militaire geschiedenis. Het is van architectuur- en bouwhistorisch belang wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de toepassing van moderne materialen en technieken, met name in de verwerking van gewapend beton. Het heeft ensemblewaarden als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel, dat cultuurhistorisch van belang is en is van belang wegens de hoogwaardige kwaliteit van de bebouwing en de historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met wegen, wateren en bodemgesteldheid. West of casemate 434, on the southern bank of the Defence Canal, stands the S (3a) CASEMATE 435, dating from 1939-1940.
The embankment has been partially excavated at this location on the side of the canal.
Description
The S-casemate can provide frontal and flanking fire on the canal and the foreground. Directly to the west, behind the line, stood the B (270a) casemate 436, which was able to cover the foreground in a north-easterly direction with heavy machine gun fire by means of a coupure in the embankment. This casemate has been demolished. Casemate 435 has been well preserved and shows no battle damage.
Valuation
The casemate is of general importance. The object has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a cultural and geographical development, namely the fortification and subsequent defence of the Netherlands during the Second World War and is as such an important document of military history.
