Inleiding
Ten noordwesten van kazemat 423 staat op de zuidelijk kade van het Defensiekanaal de S (3a) KAZEMAT 424, daterende uit 1939-1940. De wal is ter plaatse nog geheel aanwezig en heeft gedeeltelijk het oorspronkelijke profiel.
Omschrijving De kazemat staat westelijk van een bocht van negentig graden, die het kanaal ten westen van de Boswachterij Sint Anthonis maakt. Ten noordwesten van de kazemat kruist een zandweg de Peel-Raamstelling. Het is waarschijnlijk dat de verdwenen G (135lv) kazemat 425 flankerend vuur op deze weg kon uitbrengen. De kazemat 424 geeft frontaal vuur op het voorterrein en flankerend vuur op dit zandpad. De kazemat is gaaf bewaard gebleven en vertoont geen gevechtssporen.
Waardering
De kazemat is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de versterking en daaropvolgende verdediging van Nederland tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en is als zodanig een belangrijk document van de militaire geschiedenis. Northwest of casemate 423 stands on the southern bank of the Defence Canal the S (3a) CASEMATE 424, dating from 1939-1940. The embankment is still entirely present in this location and has partly the original profile.
Description
The casemate stands west of a ninety-degree bend which the canal makes west of the Sint Anthonis Forest Station. Northwest of the casemate a sandy road crosses the Peel-Raam Line. It is likely that the disappeared G (135lv) casemate 425 could provide flanking fire on this road. The casemate 424 gives frontal fire on the forward area and flanking fire on this sandy path. The casemate has been well preserved and shows no combat damage.
Valuation
The casemate is of general importance. The object has cultural historical value as a distinctive expression of a cultural and geographical development, namely the fortification and subsequent defence of the Netherlands during the Second World War and is as such an important document of military history.
