Inleiding
Ten noorden van kazemat 418 staat op de westelijke kade van het Defensiekanaal de S (3a) KAZEMAT 419, daterende uit 1939-1940. De wal is ter plaatse nog gedeeltelijk aanwezig.
Omschrijving
De kazemat staat geeft frontaal en flankerend vuur op het voorterrein en bovendien flankerend vuur op de Gemertseweg, de belangrijke ontsluitingsweg tussen Oploo en Gemert die een honderdtal meters noordelijk van de kazemat de Peel-Raamstelling kruist. De kazemat is gaaf bewaard gebleven en vertoont geen gevechtssporen.
Waardering
De kazemat is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de versterking en daaropvolgende verdediging van Nederland tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en is als zodanig een belangrijk document van de militaire geschiedenis. Het is van architectuur- en bouwhistorisch belang wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de toepassing van moderne materialen en technieken, met name in de verwerking van gewapend beton. Het heeft ensemblewaarden als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel, dat cultuurhistorisch van belang is en is van belang wegens de hoogwaardige kwaliteit van de bebouwing en de historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met wegen, wateren en bodemgesteldheid. North of casemate 418, on the western bank of the Defensiekanaal, stands the S (3a) CASEMATE 419, dating from 1939-1940. The rampart is still partially present in this location.
Description
The casemate provides frontal and flanking fire on the forward terrain and moreover flanking fire on the Gemertseweg, the important access road between Oploo and Gemert which crosses the Peel-Raam position approximately a hundred metres north of the casemate. The casemate is well preserved and shows no battle damage.
Valuation
The casemate is of general interest. The object has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a cultural and geographical development, namely the fortification and subsequent defence of the Netherlands during the Second World War and is as such an important document of military history. It is of architectural and construction-historical importance due to the particular use of materials and the application of modern materials and techniques, in particular in the processing of reinforced concrete. It has ensemble value as an essential component of a larger whole, which is of cultural-historical importance and is of importance due to the high quality of the construction and the historical-spatial relationship with roads, waterways and soil conditions.
