Inleiding
Ter hoogte van een houten brug over het Defensiekanaal staat noordelijk van kazemat 347 de S (3a) KAZEMAT 348, daterende uit 1939-1940. De wal is ter plaatse afgegraven, de kazemat staat op de westelijke kade van het kanaal.
Omschrijving
De kazemat staat aan de noordelijke zijde van een lokale, thans verharde ontsluitingsweg en kan door het middelste schietgat frontaal vuur op deze weg uitbrengen. De kazemat is gaaf bewaard gebleven en vertoont geen gevechtsschade. Nabij 348 heeft aan het Defensiekanaal kazemat 349 gestaan, van het type G (180lv). Ook deze kazemat kon frontaal vuur op de voormalige zandweg uitbrengen. Nog in de tweede Wereldoorlog is de G-kazemat opgeblazen.
Waardering
De kazemat is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de versterking en daaropvolgende verdediging van Nederland tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en is als zodanig een belangrijk document van de militaire geschiedenis. Het is van architectuur- en bouwhistorisch belang wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de toepassing van moderne materialen en technieken, met name in de verwerking van gewapend beton. Het heeft ensemblewaarden als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel, dat cultuurhistorisch van belang is en is van belang wegens de hoogwaardige kwaliteit van de bebouwing en de historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met wegen, wateren en bodemgesteldheid. The casemate is located on the northern side of a local, now hard-surfaced access road and can bring direct fire on this road through the central embrasure. The casemate has been well preserved and shows no battle damage. Near 348, casemate 349, of the G type (180lv), stood on the Defence Canal. This casemate could also bring direct fire on the former sand road. During the Second World War the G-casemate was blown up.
