Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
Direct on the Rijkesluisstraat stands the former family DWELLING HOUSE of the Teurlincx family, in its core probably dating from the first half of the nineteenth century. Around 1870 the appearance of the property was greatly changed when the street facade was raised by one storey. The facade was then whitewashed.
Description
The property has a rectangular floor plan, two storeys and is covered by a hipped roof with old Dutch tiles, which is set above the first storey on the rear side. The facades are constructed in handmade brick and have a rendered plinth. The side facades are provided with wattling. A clear construction joint is visible between the first and second storeys. Striking are the wall anchors, which are not placed at constant height and vary in size. The front facade has a rendered frieze, a profiled cornice and counts five window bays. Centrally on the ground floor is a clamped door with leaded-light fanlight. All other window openings are filled with six-light sash windows. These are somewhat smaller in scale on the first floor. In the western facade, which has three window bays, a second door has been inserted. This clamped door has a surround and a geometrically divided fanlight with St Andrew's crosses. The door is flanked by six-light sash windows. On the first floor are two sash windows, identical to those in the front facade. The eastern side facade has on the ground floor a six-light sash window and on the first floor an opening twelve-light window. Behind the house, on the western side, stands an original extension under a gabled roof, with in the eastern facade two clamped doors with fanlight, flanked by six-light sash windows. On the eastern side, against the rear facade, stands a low extension under a gabled roof, with an adjoining small yard.
Valuation
The manufacturer's dwelling house is of general importance. It has cultural-historical significance as an example of the socio-economic development of the furniture industry in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and as a sample card of the typological development of furniture industry buildings between 1860 and 1920. It is architecturally significant because of the style and ornamentation and as an example of the applied combination of building elements. It is also significant because of the integrity of its exterior and interior. It is rare because diverse buildings within the complex have been preserved.
