The register's description

Inleiding

PASTORIE behorende bij de R.K. Sint Laurentiuskerk uit 1903, ontworpen door C.F. van Hoof.

Omschrijving

Introduction

PARSONAGE belonging to the Roman Catholic Sint Laurentiuskerk from 1903, designed by C.F. van Hoof.

Description

The parsonage has a square floor plan and two storeys under a composite hipped roof covered with slate with a flat section. The front facade is asymmetrical in layout with, to the left of the entrance section over both storeys, a bay window crowned by a stepped gable and to the right above the two window bays in the roof likewise a stepped gable. The masonry consists of purple-red hand-moulded brickwork laid in English bond interspersed with yellow brick banding at the height of the top and bottom of the windows and between the storeys with profiled stones around the wall openings. On the first floor glazed T-windows with depressed pointed arch and on the ground floor straight windows with wooden shutters and segmental relieving arch. Ornamental work in the cement arch voussoirs.

Entrance porch with frontal stoep and double front door and fanlight with tripartite window.

The roof has a cresting of finials. On the attic in the roof on the south side of the house a hoist door. In each roof slope a chapel with tower cresting.

Between parsonage and church on the Dorpstraat a connecting passage in which, on the side of the street, a Renaissance natural stone already protected gate, a remnant of castle Grimhuysen, is incorporated.

The interior of the parsonage is largely authentic. Amongst other things can be mentioned a wooden staircase with two landings, cup-shaped parts, rail wrongs, turned newel post and balusters. Suite of rooms with sliding doors and neo-gothic built-in bookcase. Door frames with door lintels in hall and corridors and six-panel doors. Fine stucco work ceilings with mouldings and ceiling roses.

In front of the parsonage at the street a plot boundary consisting of wrought-iron fencing on a small mortared plinth. Between churchyard and parsonage, part of the long wall of the old chapel church forms the plot boundary.

Valuation

The parsonage is of general importance. The building has cultural-historical importance as an exemplar of the development of Catholicism, in particular the succession of chapel churches and neo-churches, which is tangible here through the incorporation of older components in the current complex. Additionally, the building is architecturally valuable as a representative of the work of architect C.F. van Hoof (Tilburg), who was active in North Brabant. The complex has ensemble value because of its relationship with the urban structure of the village centre.

It has been preserved intact both inside and out.
