Inleiding
Aan de zuidelijke zijde van de Wilhelminasingel staat het vrijstaande HERENHUIS Wilhelminasingel 3, een blokvormig pand uit omstreeks 1885. Het woonhuis vertoont elementen van de Neo-Renaissance. In de loop van de jaren is de indeling van de T-schuifvensters vereenvoudigd. Aan de achterzijde van het pand zijn verschillende verbouwingen uitgevoerd, waarbij de vensters van de begane grond zijn dichtgezet en de voormalige serre is omgebouwd tot laadvloer.
Omschrijving
Het tweelaagse, gedeeltelijk onderkelderde pand heeft een globaal vierkante plattegrond en wordt gedekt door een afgeplat schilddak met lei in Maasdekking, voorzien van een viertal hoekschoorstenen. De gevels zijn opgetrokken in baksteen.
De voorgevel telt vijf vensterassen en is verticaal geleed door een halfsteens uitspringende middenrisaliet en hoeklisenen. De gevel vertoont een hardstenen plint en dorpellijsten, alsmede gepleisterde banden, een cordonlijst en geboorte- en sluitstenen in de strekken. De gevel wordt afgesloten door een kroonlijst, ter plaatse van de risaliet en lisenen voorzien van een console. De middenrisaliet heeft op de begane grond geblokte lisenen waartussen een vleugelpaneeldeur met in laagreliëf guirlande-motieven, smeedijzeren deurroosters en rechthoekig bovenlicht. Deze teakhouten deur heeft een omlijsting in de vorm van een hoofdgestel met Ionische kolommen.
Erboven bevindt zich, op twee kunststenen consoles, het balkon voorzien van een houten balustrade. Boven de doorlopende kroonlijst staat in de as van de risaliet een stenen dakkapel met een topgevel in de vorm van een halsgevel, voorzien van klauwstukken, waarop een doorbroken pediment, bekroond met een topgevel. De vensters zijn alle T-schuifvensters, waarvan de verticale roede is verdwenen. Ze zijn voorzien van houten rolluiken.
De zijgevels zijn grotendeels blind en worden eveneens geleed door lisenen. De westelijke gevel heeft op de begane grond een dichtgezet venster. Twee boven elkaar gesitueerde vensters, voorzien van een ornamentale glas-in-lood vulling geven aan waar zich het trappenhuis bevindt. Dit centrale deel van de zijgevel is voorzien van een topgevel met geprofileerde lijst.
De oostelijke zijgevel heeft op de begane grond T-schuifvenster, voorzien van houten rolluik, terwijl op de verdieping een tweetal T-openslaande vensters zijn geplaatst. Op het oostelijke dakschild staat een dakkapel met plat dak en geprofileerde lijst.
De achtergevel is sterk verbouwd. De vensters van het centrale drielaagse bouwdeel zijn dichtgezet. De hardstenen treden van de voormalige achteruitgang, resteren nog. Links ervan een eenlaags bouwdeel met bovenliggend balkon, rechts de voormalige tweelaagse serre, op de begane grond uitgebroken en omgebouwd tot een laadwal, op de verdieping met resterend ornamentaal gesneden houtwerk.
Het interieur heeft grotendeels de oorspronkelijke indeling gehouden. In de hal een natuurstenen vloer en een tochtportaal met gestucte wanden en een dito plafond.

On the southern side of the Wilhelminasingel stands the detached TOWNHOUSE Wilhelminasingel 3, a block-shaped property dating from circa 1885. The residential building displays elements of the Neo-Renaissance. Over the years the arrangement of the T-sash windows has been simplified. At the rear of the property various alterations have been carried out, whereby the windows of the ground floor have been blocked up and the former conservatory has been converted into a loading floor.
Description
The two-storey, partly cellared property has an approximately square floor plan and is covered by a hipped roof with slate in Dutch bond, provided with four corner chimneys. The façades are constructed of brick.
The front façade has five window bays and is vertically articulated by a half-brick projecting central risalit and corner pilasters. The façade shows a stone plinth and lintels, as well as plastered bands, a cornice band and birth- and closure stones in the courses. The façade is finished with a cornice, at the risalit and pilasters provided with a console. The central risalit has blocked pilasters on the ground floor between which is a double-leaf panelled door with low-relief garland motifs, wrought-iron door grilles and rectangular fanlight. This teak door has a surround in the form of a pediment with Ionic columns.
Above it, on two stone consoles, is the balcony provided with a wooden balustrade. Above the continuous cornice stands, in the axis of the risalit, a stone roof gable with a pediment in the form of a neck gable, provided with corbel stones, on which is a broken pediment, crowned with a pediment. The windows are all T-sash windows, of which the vertical glazing bar has disappeared. They are provided with wooden roller shutters.
The side façades are largely blank and are also articulated by pilasters. The western façade has a blocked window on the ground floor. Two windows positioned one above the other, provided with ornamental stained glass infilling, indicate where the staircase is located. This central section of the side façade is provided with a pediment with moulded moulding.
The eastern side façade has a T-sash window on the ground floor, provided with a wooden roller shutter, while on the first floor two T-opening windows are installed. On the eastern roof slope stands a roof gable with flat roof and moulded moulding.
The rear façade is heavily altered. The windows of the central three-storey building component are blocked up. The stone steps of the former rear exit still remain. To the left of it a one-storey building component with overlying balcony, to the right the former two-storey conservatory, on the ground floor opened up and converted to a loading ramp, on the first floor with remaining ornamental carved woodwork.
The interior has largely retained the original arrangement. In the hall a natural stone floor and a draught lobby with stuccoed walls and likewise ceiling.

The townhouse is of general importance. It has cultural-historical values: it is important as a particular expression of typological development.
