Inleiding
VILLA "Haghehoeck" uit 1926. Naast een heroriëntatie op traditionele bouwwijzen, toont zij kenmerken van de Engelse Landhuisstijl. De villa is door het Bouwbureau Korteweg gebouwd voor notaris Esser, waarnaar ook de aanliggende Esserstraat werd genoemd. De villa staat aan een kruispunt van wegen en ligt vrij op een trapeziumvormig perceel met de voor- of noordgevel aan de Haagweg, de linkerzijgevel aan de Laan van Mertersem en de rechterzijgevel aan de Esserstraat. Rondom het perceel een erfafscheiding.
In de zeventiger jaren is aan de oostkant van de villa een eenlaagse dokterspraktijkruimte aangebouwd, deze behoort echter niet tot de bescherming.
Omschrijving
De eenlaagse villa onder rieten samengesteld wolfsdak met overstek heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond. De villa zelf ligt op een vier treden hoog gemetseld terras waarin bloembakken zijn opgenomen. Symmetrische voorgevel. Ingangspartij onder een rieten zadeldak met puntgevel. Het opgaande werk bestaat uit handgevormde baksteen gemetseld in staand verband.
Naar binnen draaiende vensters op de begane grond voorzien van luiken.
Interieur met moer- en kinderbalken. Centrale hal met eiken trap en bordes.
De erfafscheiding aan de straat bestaat gedeeltelijk uit een gemetseld schansmuurtje met hekpijlers met daarop een ijzeren van pijlpunten voorzien hekwerk met draaihekken.
In de tuin diverse uitheemse bomen uit de bouwtijd. Aan de straatkant een beukenhaag.
Waardering
De villa met tuin is van algemeen belang. Zij heeft cultuurhistorische waarden als voorbeeld van een landhuis in de groene omgeving van de stad. Zij heeft architectuurhistorische waarden als voorbeeld van de mengeling van traditionele en landelijke stijlmotieven, die het gebouw aanpassen aan de groene omgeving; het object is hierdoor van belang voor de geschiedenis van de architectuur; het object is een representatief voorbeeld van het oeuvre van het bouwbureau F.
