Inleiding

Description
Introduction
LANDHOUSE "De Haghe" in Chalet style rebuilt in 1906 by the building firm A.N. Sprangers (Princenhage) for the mayor of Princenhage F.C.V. Dommers van Polderveldt. The landhhouse is situated in the middle of an English landscape garden from 1908.
Originally the chalet was built around 1875 in Switzerland on the shore of Lake Neuchâtel. In 1905 it was dismantled leaving behind various components including the foundation. In the reconstruction in the Netherlands the architecture of the chalet was somewhat adapted. Among other things, the house now has a natural stone plinth instead of a red brick one, and red Old Dutch tiles instead of slate. Internally the staircase in the central hall was altered and the house received its present wooden floors. At the rear an extension under a flat roof.
Description
The two-storey landhhouse has a rectangular ground plan under an L-shaped assembled gabled roof with overhang and wooden wind braces. On the right an enclosed porch under a gabled roof which on the upper storey has an L-shaped ground plan. The ridge of the main roof runs perpendicular to the street. On the east side of the house an attached five-sided single-storey bay window. The roofs are covered with red Old Dutch tiles. The house is built of whitewashed brick standing on a natural stone plinth. On the south-east side of the house a high tapering brick chimney. In the outer walls of the first storey and gable front timber-framing is applied standing on projecting beam ends of the storey and attic floor layers. The symmetrical front façade consists of five bays with on the ground floor and upper storey windows with a T-shaped arrangement of casement windows and inward-opening windows and fanlights, respectively with ten- and thirteen-pane glazing bars. In the right front room leaded glass with medallions. The fanlights on the upper storey have alternating green and yellow figured glass.
The windows on the ground floor have shutters, those on the upper storey rounded upper corners. The double windows of the attic front likewise have casement windows with a six-pane glazing bars. In the casement windows and fanlights of the bay window small glazing bars. Front door with fanlight. At the rear on the first storey a large open balcony with wooden balustrade with turned balusters.
Internally the house has both stone and wooden walls. The interior is very finely crafted. It has a central hall with wooden staircase ending in a large landing on the first storey with a wooden balustrade and rail with turned balusters. Wooden panelled doors and casement windows, partly filled with leaded glass and provided with small glazing bars.
Valuation
The landhhouse is of general interest. It has cultural-historical values: it is of importance as a particular expression of the typological development of the landhhouse because of the timber-frame construction occurring at the beginning of the twentieth century and because of the extremely curious history of its creation. The object has architectural-historical values: it is of particular importance for the history of architecture and building technique, among other things because of the combination of brickwork and timber-frame construction and because of the detailing. Rarity: the object is of importance because of the building technique and the remarkable history of its creation.
