Inleiding
De 'Witte Huisjes' (gebouw U), gelegen aan de zuidelijke zijde van het exercitieterrein van de Seeligkazerne, zijn voormalige DIENSTWONINGEN, bestemd voor onder-officieren met hun gezinnen. De lange, lage rij met 14 woonhuizen werd gebouwd in 1889-'90. Omstreeks 1915 zijn de woonhuizen alle voorzien van een dakkapel. In de woningen was geruime tijd de D.G.W.T.-afdeling Breda gevestigd. Na de verhuizing van deze afdeling bleven de woningen in gebruik als kantoorruimte.
Omschrijving
Het object heeft een langgerekte, rechthoekige plattegrond, telt één bouwlaag en wordt gedekt door een zadeldak met verbeterde Hollandse pannen. De gevels zijn opgetrokken in baksteen en wit geschilderd en worden afgesloten door een geprofileerde gootlijst. De voorgevel is ritmisch ingedeeld met afwisselend één of twee getoogde twaalfruits schuifvensters en opgeklampte deuren met getoogd driedelig bovenlicht. Alle deur- en vensteropeningen zijn voorzien van een kuif. De gevelindeling correspondeert met de oorspronkelijke plattegrond. Op het dakschild aan de zijde van het exercitieterrein staan, op regelmatige afstand, dakkapellen, voorzien van plat dak met overstek en openslaande roedenvensters. Op de nok van het dak staan, met name op het rechterdeel van de rij, nog de oorspronkelijke gemetselde schoorstenen.

Het object is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarden: het is van belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de relatie van Breda met het Nederlandse leger en als voorbeeld van de technische en typologische ontwikkeling van de kazernebouw. Introduction
The 'White Houses' (building U), located on the southern side of the exercise grounds of the Seeligkazerne, are former SERVICE DWELLINGS, intended for non-commissioned officers with their families. The long, low row of 14 residential houses was built in 1889-'90. Around 1915 the residential houses were all provided with a roof dormer. Description
The object has an elongated rectangular plan, comprises one storey and is covered by a gabled roof with improved Dutch tiles. The facades are built of brick and painted white and are finished with a moulded gutter line. The front facade is rhythmically arranged with alternating one or two arched twelve-pane sash windows and attached doors with arched three-part fanlight. All door and window openings are provided with a hood. The facade arrangement corresponds with the original plan. On the roof slope on the side of the exercise ground, at regular intervals, are roof dormers, provided with a flat roof with overhang and glazed roedenvensters. On the ridge of the roof stand, particularly on the right-hand part of the row, the original brick chimneys.

The object is of general interest. It has cultural-historical values: it is of importance as a particular expression of the relationship of Breda with the Dutch army and as an example of the technical and typological development of barracks construction.
