Inleiding
Aansluitend op de oostzijde van het brouwhuis van brouwerij 'De Drie Hoefijzers' (anno 2003: Interbrew Nederland) staat de voormalige MOUTERIJ Ceres met machinekamer, hoofdzakelijk daterende uit omstreeks 1905 maar in kern uit 1887. De cultuurhistorische waarden concentreren zich in het bouwvolume aan de Ceresstraat, in aansluiting op het brouwhuis. De noordelijk gelegen bouwdelen vallen daar buiten. Direct ten oosten van het noordelijk bouwdeel staat de schoorsteen (functioneel gesitueerd ten noordoosten van de machinekamer).
Omschrijving
De voormalige mouterij heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond en telt in hoofdzaak één hoge bouwlaag, plaatselijk meer verdiepingen. Het gebouw wordt gedekt door een zadeldak, gedeeltelijk uitgevoerd met lichtrups. De gevels zijn opgetrokken in baksteen, met tegen de kopgevels (aan de oostelijke en westelijke zijde) bakstenen, bepleisterde lisenen, afgesloten door een getrapte en klimmende, gestucte lijst. De oostelijke, vrij gelegen gevel heeft een symmetrische indeling met vier vensterassen. Op de begane grond drie rondboogvensters, op de etage rechtgesloten vensters met gestucte latei en dorpel, bij de middelste vensterassen dubbel uitgevoerd met kalf en gedeeltelijk later dichtgezet. Alle vensters, ook in de voorgevel aan de Ceresstraat, zijn omstreeks 1990 van nieuwe kunststoffen kozijnen voorzien. De noordgevel had van oorsprong een travee-indeling met muurdammen en spaarnissen. Het zadeldak heeft een overstek. De oorspronkelijke pannen zijn vervangen door zink, dakleer en golfplaten.
In het interieur zijn onder meer van belang het trappenhuis en twee grote hallen. Verschillende wanden hebben een lambrizering van geel geglazuurde steen, met een plint van groen geglazuurde steen. De tegelvloer bestaat uit mat geglazuurde, veelkleurige tegels. Op de vloeren werd tot de bouw van het nieuwe brouwhuis het gerst gekiemd. De machinehal heeft een gedrukt tongewelf. De wanden zijn bekleed met wit geglazuurde steen en tegels met groene banden. In de machinehal onder andere een uurwerk fabrikaat ELKA en een rolkat fabrikaat 'NV GEBRs STORK & CO'S FABRIEK VAN HIJSCHWERKTUIGEN No 459 HENGELO 1917.' Hieronder een van zware muurdammen en pijlers voorziene kelder. Op de verdieping - die slechts een deel van het pand beslaat - zijn in wit geglazuurde steen uitgevoerde troggewelfjes. De westelijke hal in het pand heeft een kapconstructie met polonceauspanten, voorzien van gietijzeren drukstaven en ijzeren trekstaven. Gietijzeren kolommen.
Waardering
De mouterij is van algemeen belang vanwege de functionele, historische en visuele verbondenheid met de brouwerij. Description
The former malthouse has a rectangular floor plan and comprises mainly one high storey, locally with more floors. The building is covered by a gabled roof, partly executed with roof lights. The facades are constructed in brickwork, with plastered brick pilasters on the gable ends (on the eastern and western sides), finished with a stepped and climbing, stuccoed moulding. The eastern, free-standing facade has a symmetrical layout with four window bays. On the ground floor three round-arched windows, on the upper floor straight-topped windows with stuccoed lintels and sills, at the middle window bays executed double with calf and partially later filled in. All windows, also in the front facade on the Ceresstraat, have been fitted with new plastic frames circa 1990. The north facade originally had a bay layout with wall partitions and spandrels. The gabled roof has an overhang. The original tiles have been replaced with zinc, roofing felt and corrugated sheets.
In the interior, notably the stairwell and two large halls are of importance. Various walls have wainscoting of yellow glazed stone, with a plinth of green glazed stone. The tile floor consists of mat glazed, multicoloured tiles. On the floors barley was germinated until the construction of the new brewery house. The machine hall has a pressed barrel vault. The walls are clad with white glazed stone and tiles with green bands. In the machine hall among other things a clock of ELKA manufacture and a roller kiln of manufacture 'NV GEBRs STORK & CO'S FABRIEK VAN HIJSCHWERKTUIGEN No 459 HENGELO 1917.' Below this a cellar provided with heavy wall partitions and pillars. On the upper floor - which occupies only part of the building - small trough vaults executed in white glazed stone.
