Omschrijving
Inleiding.
HERENHUIS, gebouwd in 1880 in Eclectische stijl. Het werd gebouwd voor M. van Dijck, de toenmalige burgemeester. Het bevindt zich in de kern van de plaats Diessen. Achter het huis werd een grote tuin aangelegd, die heringericht is als openbaar park. In 1954 werd het pand verbouwd tot gemeentehuis. Toegevoegd werden twee glas-in-loodramen en een klokkentorentje. In de jaren zeventig werd het aan de achterzijde uitgebreid.
Omschrijving.
Het rechthoekige tweelaagse herenhuis telt vijf traveeën en is symmetrisch van opzet, zoals ook de achterwaarts geplaatste bijgebouwen, mogelijk vroeger koetshuizen, aan de zijgevels. De gevels zijn opgetrokken uit machinale baksteen, de plint en de waterlijsten annex dorpels zijn van hardsteen. Het hoofdgebouw heeft een zadeldak met de nok parallel aan de straat, de bijgebouwen hebben een tentdak met een bewerkte zinken piron. De daken zijn belegd met verbeterde zwarte Hollandse dakpannen. De hoeken en de centrale travee risaleren een halve steen. De getoogde T-vensters van de begane grond zijn hoger dan die van de verdieping. Zij zijn voorzien van een geprofileerde stucomlijsting met een kuif. De brede paneeldeur in het midden heeft een dubbele geornamenteerde omlijsting, voorzien van schoenenschrapers. De deur is voorzien van bewerkte koperen duwstangen en een getoogd glas-in-lood bovenlicht. Onder de gootlijst is er een tandlijst en een geprofileerd gepleisterd fries. Op de hoeken van de nok staan baksteen schoorstenen, in het midden is in 1954 een open klokkentorentje onder tentdak aangebracht.
De bijgebouwen zijn aan de voorzijde voorzien van een nieuw breed raam.
Waardering.
Het voormalige herenhuis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de sociaaleconomische ontwikkeling, namelijk de stichting van nieuwe woningen voor de plaatselijke elite, het is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het herenhuis. The rectangular two-storey manor house has five bays and is symmetrical in layout, as are the rear-placed ancillary buildings, possibly former coach houses, at the side facades. The facades are built up from machine-made brick, the plinth and the drip mouldings annex dormer sills are of hard stone. The main building has a gabled roof with the ridge parallel to the street, the ancillary buildings have a tent roof with a worked zinc hip. The roofs are covered with improved black Dutch roof tiles. The corners and the central bay project half a brick. The arched T-windows of the ground floor are taller than those of the upper storey. They are provided with a profiled stucco surround with a hood moulding. The wide panelled door in the middle has a double ornamented surround, provided with boot scrapers. The door is furnished with worked copper push bars and an arched stained-glass fanlight. Below the eaves line there is a tooth course and a profiled plastered frieze. On the corners of the ridge stand brick chimneys, in the middle an open bell tower under tent roof was added in 1954.
The ancillary buildings are provided on the front with a new wide window.
