Inleiding
BIERBROUWERIJ, later als ijsfabriek gebruikt, nu DAFmuseum. Het pand is in 1884 gebouwd in opdracht van Coolen als stoombierbrouwerij "De Valk" in Ambachtelijk Traditionele stijl.
Het geheel ligt aan de Tongelresestraat, op de hoek van de Kanaaldijk.
Deze locatie aan het Eindhovens kanaal bevindt zich vlak bij het centrum van Eindhoven, voor 1920 behoorde dit gebied tot de gemeente Stratum en was er veel industrialisatie.
Bij de restauratie/verbouwing tot DAFmuseum is een aantal latere aanbouwsels verwijderd. Achter het brouwerijgebouw is een moderne hal geplaatst, door middel van een eveneens nieuw tussenlid met de oudbouw verbonden. Alleen het authentieke brouwerijgebouw met woonhuis en opslagruimte worden beschermd.
Omschrijving
Het pand bestaat uit drie onderdelen. De hoofdmassa wordt gevormd door een langgerekt, tweelaags pand met mezzanino, gedeeltelijk onderkelderd. Het heeft een zadeldak, waarvan de nok evenwijdig aan de straat loopt, het dak is gedekt met Hollandse pannen. Voor de helft is dit dak in een latere fase door een mansardedak vervangen. Het geheel heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond en is uitgevoerd in baksteen, voorzien van een gepleisterde plint en mezzanino. Ook de speklagen en waterlijsten zijn gepleisterd uitgevoerd. De speklagen lopen door in de omlijsting van de getoogde zesruitsramen. De mezzanino heeft kleine getoogde raampjes. In de voorgevel op de begane grond zijn kleine klampdeuren aangebracht. Een brede band boven de begane grond bevat van oudsher de naam van het gebouw. Rechts van dit deel is een hoge opslagplaats onder zadeldak, haaks op de straat gebouwd. Ook dit deel is uitgevoerd in baksteen. Op de voorgevel zijn brede, hoge rondbooglisenen aanwezig. In de topgevel is een luik met hijsinrichting aangebracht. Links ervan een blokvormig tweelaags gebouw onder schilddak zichtbaar. Dit voormalig woonhuis heeft gepleisterde gevels. Hierin zijn grote ramen met roedenverdeling geplaatst. Op de begane grond is boven de ramen een metalen I-profiel zichtbaar. In het interieur zijn in het hoofdgebouw plafonds met troggewelven bewaard gebleven. De indeling is in grote lijnen nog hetzelfde.
Waardering
De voormalige brouwerij is van algemeen belang. Het gebouw heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling van de nijverheid en als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van de brouwerijgebouwen. Het is architectuurhistorisch van belang vanwege de sobere stijl en de ornamentiek. Het gebouw is tevens van belang vanwege de gaafheid van het exterieur. Het is zeldzaam wegens opzet en constructie en vanwege de opeenvolgende functies.

Description
The building consists of three components. The main mass is formed by an elongated, two-storey building with mezzanine, partly basement. It has a gabled roof, the ridge of which runs parallel to the street; the roof is covered with Dutch tiles. For half its length this roof was replaced by a mansard roof at a later stage. The whole has a rectangular floor plan and is executed in brick, provided with a rendered plinth and mezzanine. The decorative bands and drip mouldings are also rendered. The decorative bands continue in the mouldings of the arched six-pane windows. The mezzanine has small arched window panes. On the ground-floor facade small clamped doors have been installed. A broad band above the ground floor contains the name of the building, as it has since the beginning. To the right of this section is a tall storage place under a gabled roof, built at right angles to the street. This section is also executed in brick. On the facade are broad, high round-arch mouldings. In the gable is a hatch with hoisting equipment. To its left a block-shaped two-storey building under a hipped roof is visible. This former residential building has rendered facades. Large windows with glazing bars have been installed in it. On the ground floor above the windows a metal I-beam is visible. In the interior of the main building, ceilings with barrel vaults have been preserved. The layout is broadly the same.
Valuation
The former brewery is of general importance. The building has cultural-historical importance as an example of the socio-economic development of industry and as an example of the typological development of brewery buildings. It is of architectural-historical importance owing to the restrained style and ornamentation. The building is also important owing to the integrity of its exterior. It is rare owing to its design and construction and owing to its successive functions.
