Inleiding
RADIOMONUMENT ter gelegenheid van de tot stand koming van de eerste radioverbinding tussen Nederland en Nederlands Oost-Indië. De sculptuur is gemaakt door A. Termote, het geheel werd ontworpen in samenwerking met D. Roosenburg. Het monument dateert uit 1936 en bevindt zich in het stadswandelpark, in het stadsdeel Stratum.
Omschrijving
Het beeld stelt een roepende vrouw voor en is uitgevoerd in brons. De sculptuur is op de uiterste punt van een V-vormig basement geplaatst, de vrouw hangt uitgestrekt boven een hartvormige vijver met haar voeten aan een bal. Het basement is uitgevoerd in baksteen, voorzien van fantasie metselpatronen en betonnen banden aan de onderzijde. Een groot gedeelte van de sokkel is afgedekt met koperen platen die als schubben over elkaar liggen. Aan de open zijde van de V is een herdenkingsplaquette aangebracht, welke wordt geflankeerd door reliëfs waarop, en profil, koppen zijn afgebeeld. Daarnaast zijn op de punten van de V ook natuurstenen platen met tekst aangebracht. Alle teksten herdenken de tot standkoming van de radioverbinding en onthulling van het monument.
Het monument bevindt zich op een kunstmatige verhoging in het park. Twee bakstenen trappen aan de zijkanten, voeren naar de vijver waar aan beide schuine zijden van de vijver gemetselde banken staan. De achterzijde van de verhoging wordt afgeschermd door een laag bakstenen muurtje met vierkante pijlers, voorzien van afdekplaten. Ook hiertegenaan is een bank bevestigd.
Waardering
Het radiomonument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een technische en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de totstandkoming van de radioverbinding met Nederlands Indië; het is tevens van belang voor de typologische onwikkeling van het openbare gedenkteken. Het heeft architectuur- en kunsthistorisch belang als voorbeeld van het werk van de architect Roosenburg en de beeldhouwer Termote. Het heeft ensemblewaarden als onderdeel van de overigens niet beschermde parkaanleg. Het is gaaf bewaard gebleven en typologisch zeldzaam.

Description
The sculpture represents a calling woman and is executed in bronze. The sculpture is placed at the apex of a V-shaped base, the woman hangs outstretched above a heart-shaped pond with her feet on a ball.
