Inleiding
FABRIKANTENWONING, gebouwd in 1919 in opdracht van textielfabrikant Kerssemakers. Het pand is in een sobere stijl uitgevoerd met Classicistische elementen (Um 1800-stijl) en ligt aan de Hoogstraat, één van de oude lintwegen, in het stadsdeel Gestel. Oorspronkelijk bevond zich in de direkte omgeving van de woning het fabriekscomplex. Achter het huis is nieuwbouw geplaatst. Deze is door middel van een tussenlid tegen de achtergevel met de oudbouw verbonden. Bescherming beperkt zich tot de bebouwing uit 1919.
Het huis doet tegenwoordig dienst als opvangtehuis.
Omschrijving
Tweelaags pand op een nagenoeg vierkante plattegrond onder een afgeplat schilddak. De voorgevel is vijf traveeën breed, tegen de linkerzijgevel is in het midden een éénlaagse serre aangebracht. Het plat dak daarvan doet dienst als balkon en heeft een afscheiding van natuurstenen balusters.
Achter de serre is een risaliet onder klein schilddak zichtbaar.
Het pand is opgetrokken uit beton, deze constructie is bekleed met baksteen. Op de hoeken zijn gemetselde blokken aangebracht. Het pand is voorzien van een fries met ..... cordonlijst en een goot met tandlijst. Een aantal dekoratieve elementen is uitgevoerd in natuursteen.
Voorbeelden zijn de sluitstenen boven de ramen en de omlijsting van het bovenlicht van de deur, bestaande uit een tympaan en guirlandes.
In het midden van de voorgevel bevindt zich een paneeldeur, ervoor is een klein bordes met natuurstenen trapje aangebracht. Verspreid over de gevels bevinden zich schuiframen met een kleine roedenverdeling. In het dakvlak zijn dakkapellen, bekroond door een klassiek fronton geplaatst.
In het interieur is op de begane grond de oorspronkelijke indeling bewaard gebleven. Aan weerszijden van de centrale gang liggen vertrekken. Ongeveer in het midden van de gang, aan de rechterkant, is het trappenhuis gesitueerd met gekleurde glas-in-loodramen. De houten trap heeft een met snijwerk bewerkte hoofdbaluster. Ook een groot deel van de authentieke aankleding is bewaard gebleven. De gang is voorzien van een marmeren vloer, bestaande uit zwarte en witte tegels, in dambordpatroon gelegd en heeft een marmeren lambrizering en pilasters. Links van de gang is een kamer-en-suite, geheel voorzien van donker gekleurde houten lambrizeringen. Deze kamer heeft een parketvloer met ingelegde randen. Tussen de twee kamers en tussen de kamer en de serre bevinden zich schuifdeuren. De omlijsting van de doorgang van voor- naar achterkamer en de omlijsting van een nis in de achterkamer zijn uitgevoerd in hout, op de hoeken voorzien van leeuwenkoppen. In de voorkamer is een schouw in houten omlijsting aanwezig, de schouw in de achterkamer heeft een marmeren omlijsting. Boven de terrasdeuren in de achterkamer is gebrandschilderd glas-in-lood aangebracht met het jaartal 1919. De vertrekken op de begane grond zijn voorzien van eenvoudige stucplafonds. De deuren zijn gevat in gelakte houten omlijstingen met geprofileerde randen. Op de verdieping is de oorspronkelijke hoogte aangehouden, de indeling is gewijzigd.
Aan de achterzijde is een betegeld terras aanwezig met een balustrade van natuurstenen balusters.
Rondom het pand is een tuin aangelegd die van de straat wordt gescheiden door middel van een smeedijzeren hek op een laag bakstenen muurtje. Op de hoeken zijn zware bakstenen pijlers aangebracht, deze bevinden zich ook aan weerszijden van het poortje, in het midden van het hek.
Waardering
Het woonhuis is van algemeen belang. Het pand heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, namelijk de stichting van woningen voor fabrikanten en de gegoede burgerij in de periode na de Eerste Wereldoorlog; het is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het woonhuis. Het object is van architectuurhistorisch belang door de zeer verzorgde stijl en detaillering en de wijze waarop traditionele stijlvormen zijn toegepast voor de representatie van de nieuwe rijken. Het huis is van belang vanwege de architectonische gaafheid van het ex- en interieur. Het is als zodanig zeldzaam.

Description
Two-storey building on an almost square ground plan under a hipped roof with flattened apex. The front facade is five bays wide, against the left side facade a single-storey conservatory has been placed in the middle. The flat roof thereof serves as a balcony and has a balustrade of natural stone balusters.

In the interior on the ground floor the original layout has been preserved. On either side of the central corridor lie rooms. Approximately in the middle of the corridor, on the right side, the staircase is situated with coloured stained glass windows. The wooden staircase has a main baluster worked with carved ornament. A large part of the authentic fittings has also been preserved. The corridor is provided with a marble floor, consisting of black and white tiles, laid in a chessboard pattern and has marble wainscoting and pilasters. To the left of the corridor is a bedroom suite, entirely provided with dark coloured wooden wainscoting. This room has a parquet floor with inlaid borders. Between the two rooms and between the room and the conservatory are sliding doors. The framing of the passage from front to back room and the framing of a niche in the back room are executed in wood, furnished at the corners with lion's heads. In the front room is a fireplace in wooden framing, the fireplace in the back room has a marble framing. Above the terrace doors in the back room stained glass with the date 1919 has been placed. The rooms on the ground floor are provided with simple stucco ceilings. The doors are set in painted wooden framings with profiled edges. Around the building a garden has been laid out which is separated from the street by means of a wrought iron fence on a low brick wall. On the corners heavy brick pillars have been placed, these are also present on either side of the gate, in the middle of the fence.
