Inleiding
ZOMERHUIS met DIENSTVERTREKKEN, gebouwd door architect G. Geenen in 1907, ter vervanging van een laat-negentiende eeuws buitenhuis. Het geheel dat in opdracht van de notaris Fens tot stand kwam heeft kenmerken van de Chaletstijl en enkele elementen van Art Nouveau.
Omschrijving
Tweelaags vrijstaand ZOMERHUIS met topgevels. Het pand heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond onder een samengesteld (schilden zadeldak), gedekt met kruispannen. Het dak heeft een overstek op consoles en is voorzien van windveren en makelaars. Aan de achterzijde loopt het dak tot de begane grond toe door. De voorgevel is aan de rechterkant voorzien van een risaliet met topgevel. Links daarvan bevindt zich de ingang, erboven is een torenachtige opbouw onder tentdak geplaatst.
Het pand is uitgevoerd in baksteen en heeft een gepleisterde plint. Een deel van de zijgevel en de topgevels zijn betimmerd. Het geheel is voorzien van speklagen in strengperssteen, gedeeltelijk als doorlopende banden, gedeeltelijk in een onderbroken patroon aangebracht. In de kroonlijst is metselwerk in mozaïek zichtbaar.
In de risaliet is een breed rondboograam aangebracht. De ramen zijn voorzien van bovenlichten met roedenverdeling en kathedraalglas. Erboven zijn in het metselwerk segmentbogen aangebracht. Zowel in de voor- als in de zijgevel zijn paneeldeuren aanwezig.
Naast de voordeur bevindt zich een gevelsteen met bouwdatum, in de topgevel is de naam van het pand KORTONJO aangebracht.
Tegen de rechterzijgevel is een houten veranda aangebracht, tegen de muren bevindt zich een tegeltableau in Art Nouveaustijl met afbeeldingen van vogels. Boven de veranda bevindt zich een balkon.
Het huis is gedeeltelijk onderkelderd. Indeling en interieur zijn gaaf bewaard gebleven. De kelder wordt overwelfd door troggewelven en heeft een tegelvloer, er zijn diverse voorraadschappen ingebouwd. In de keuken zijn de oorspronkelijke schouw en inbouwkasten nog aanwezig. Andere elementen uit de bouwtijd zijn onder andere de paneeldeuren in een geprofileerde omlijsting die door het gehele huis heen voorkomen. Opmerkelijk daarbij is het steeds terugkerend motief van een klaver drie als bekroning van de deurposten, dit familiesymbool is ook in de hoeken van het parket van de woonkamer ingelegd.
Andere voorbeelden van oorspronkelijke inrichting zijn de stucplafonds in de hoge vertrekken op de begane grond en in de gang en de bovenlichten van de deuren die steeds met glas-in-lood zijn gevuld. In de woonkamer bevindt zich een zwart marmeren schouw waarin zweepslagmotieven zijn aangebracht.

Het zomerhuis is van algemeen belang. Two-storey detached SUMMER HOUSE with gable roofs. The building has a rectangular ground plan under a composite roof (hipped and gabled roof), covered with interlocking tiles. The roof has an overhang on corbels and is provided with wind braces and roof finials. At the rear, the roof extends to ground level. The front elevation is provided on the right side with a pavilion with gable roof. To the left of this is the entrance, above it is a tower-like structure placed under a hipped roof.
The building is executed in brick and has a plastered plinth. Part of the side elevation and the gable roofs are timber-clad. The whole is provided with decorative courses in pressed brick, partly applied as continuous bands, partly in an interrupted pattern. Mosaic brickwork is visible in the cornice.
In the pavilion is a broad round-arched window. The windows are provided with fanlights with glazing bars and cathedral glass. Above them are segmental arches in the brickwork. Panel doors are present in both the front and side elevations.
Beside the front door is a stone plaque with the building date, in the gable roof the name of the building KORTONJO is displayed.
Against the right side elevation is a wooden veranda, against the walls is a tile panel in Art Nouveau style with depictions of birds. Above the veranda is a balcony.
