Inleiding
POORTGEBOUW met WOONHUIS, SCHUUR en KERKHOFMUUR van de begraafplaats van de Catharinakerk, uit de jaren dertig van de twintigste eeuw in Traditionalistische stijl.
Omschrijving
Bakstenen gebouw, aan de ingang van de begraafplaats gebouwd. Het geheel bestaat uit een poort met klokgevel waarachter zich een zadeldak met houten plafond uitstrekt. De topgevel aan de achterzijde is voorzien van windveren en betimmering. De gevel wordt aan weerszijden gedekoreerd door voluten, uitgevoerd in natuursteen. In een nis op de topgevel is een beeld van St. Catharina geplaatst. De toegang heeft een smeedijzeren rondbooghek.
De poort wordt geflankeerd door een WOONHUIS aan de linkerzijde en een SCHUUR aan de rechterkant. Het huis is tweelaags met een topgevel, op een rechthoekige plattegrond onder zadeldak en staat haaks op de straat. De ramen op de begane grond zijn voorzien van een roedenverdeling, op de verdieping bevinden zich rondboogramen. In de topgevel zijn enkele ronde raampjes aangebracht. De voorgevel is voorzien van een gepleisterde plint, de achtergevel is in zijn geheel gepleisterd en heeft zesruitsramen.
De schuur is éénlaags met topgevel, op een rechthoekige plattegrond onder zadeldak en staat haaks op de straat. De gevel aan de straatkant heeft een gepleisterde plint. Er zijn twee smalle rondboogramen en een rond raam in de top aanwezig. Aan de zijde van de begraafplaats is de topgevel voorzien van vlechtingen. Deze gevel heeft een houten poort onder een segmentboog.
De bakstenen KERKHOFMUUR is gebouwd in 1916 naar ontwerp van L.P.J. Kooken als vervanging van de gracht. De kerkhofmuur is aan drie zijden voorzien van pilonen op de ezelsrug. Aan de binnenzijde zijn de gemetselde pilasters voorzien van kruisjes, behalve aan de noord-oostzijde, waar voorheen een gemeentelijk begraafplaatsje was voorzien. Hier ontbreken de kruisjes. De noordelijke muur heeft wel pilasters, echter geen pilonen. Dit muurdeel is in 1938 gebouwd.
Waardering
Het poortgebouw met woonhuis, schuur en kerkhofmuur is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de ontwikkeling van de katholieke grafcultuur, het is tevens van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van het dienstgebouw. Description
Brick building, constructed at the entrance of the cemetery. The whole consists of a gate with bell gable behind which extends a gabled roof with wooden ceiling. The top gable on the rear elevation is provided with wind vanes and timber cladding. The gable is decorated on both sides by volutes, executed in natural stone. An image of St. Catharina is placed in a niche on the top gable. The entrance has a wrought-iron semicircular arch gate.
The gate is flanked by a DWELLING on the left side and a BARN on the right side. The house is two storeys with a top gable, on a rectangular floor plan under a gabled roof and stands at right angles to the street. The windows on the ground floor are provided with glazing bars, on the upper floor are semicircular arch windows. Several round windows are arranged in the top gable. The front gable is provided with a rendered plinth, the rear gable is entirely rendered and has six-light windows.
The barn is single storey with top gable, on a rectangular floor plan under a gabled roof and stands at right angles to the street. The gable facing the street has a rendered plinth. There are two narrow semicircular arch windows and a round window in the top present. On the side of the cemetery the top gable is provided with wattle and daub. This gable has a wooden gate under a segmental arch.
The brick CEMETERY WALL was built in 1916 after a design by L.P.J. Kooken as a replacement for the moat. The cemetery wall is provided with pilons on the ridge at three sides. On the inside the mortared pilasters are provided with small crosses, except on the north-east side, where a municipal cemetery plot was previously provided. Here the small crosses are absent. The northern wall does have pilasters, however no pilons. This section of wall was built in 1938.
Valuation
The gatehouse with dwelling, barn and cemetery wall is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a special expression of a social and spiritual development, in particular the development of Catholic grave culture, it is also of importance for the typological development of the service building. It has ensemble values as part of a cemetery which is of cultural-historical, architectural-historical and urban planning importance. The building has been well preserved.
