Inleiding
R.K. KERK.

Description
Introduction
R.C. CHURCH. The parish church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus with associated rectory was built to plans by Dom Paul Bellot and H.C. van de Leur between 1929 and 1931.
In 1953 a renovation of the front facade took place to the design of J. Bedaux, in the interior vaults have been installed. In 1966 a new sacrament chapel to the design of architect A. Vermeulen was added to the church. To the right of it a recently realized extension to the new rectory. Sacrament chapel and extension are not covered by the protection.
Description
Church on cross-shaped floor plan with narrow aisles and apse with ambulatory. Round tower with vertical articulation up to the bell-openings and gear-wheel-like cross-section. Copper pointed roof.
Against the front facade is situated a lower portal, on the left flanked by a square tower under copper tent roof, on the right high round tower with copper spire. This tower consists of three articulations: on the ground floor a polygonal tower, above it over a large part of the total height with cut-outs creating a star-shaped profile. At the top of this section four clock faces are mounted on four sides. Finally a section with bell-openings, crowned by a profiled brick course. The whole is crowned by a copper spire with wrought-iron cross. Against this portal is a block-shaped extension (Maria chapel) under copper hipped roof placed. In the side facades this chapel is provided with high double doors, above them lanterns are mounted. Facing the street high leaded-glass windows with a natural stone window sill. Against the side facades three projecting bays are placed, each with their own gabled roof, transverse to the roof of the central nave. Per bay three narrow windows are placed. Of the transverse aisles the part directly adjoining the central nave is the same height, the part beyond it is lower (as the front portal).
The whole is executed in brick with composite gabled roofs, covered with red improved Dutch tiles.
The windows of the church are at the top always segmental-arch shaped and filled with leaded glass.
The interior is executed in fair-faced brickwork in which locally brick mosaics are installed. In the apse polychrome brickwork is visible. The apse is provided with a narrow ambulatory. The central nave has been spanned since 1953 by chain arches as well as the passages to the side aisles. In the crossing and apse are star-shaped vaults installed, the passages in the secondary spaces are crowned with segmental arches. The square pillars between central and side naves are provided with narrow edges in glazed brick.
Leaded-glass windows with Biblical scenes were made to the design of P. Wiegersma in 1952 and 1958.
The inventory includes among others a high altar, executed in marble and copper from 1928 (Jorna?), a Theresa altar likewise from 1928 and a baptismal font, executed in hardstone with copper lid (1928).
