Inleiding.
Op het overigens niet beschermde kerkhof, dat is gesitueerd op het terrein van de voormalige middeleeuwse kerk die in de tweede helft van de 19de eeuw werd gesloopt, bevindt zich een neogotische GRAFKAPEL voor de familie Maas-Leen, omstreeks 1883 vervaardigd door de firma Barette te Eindhoven.
Beschrijving.
Een geheel hardstenen grafkapel met rechthoekige plattegrond op hardstenen sokkel met plint. De kapel heeft een zadeldak gedekt met lei in Maasdekking. De ingang aan de zuidzijde bestaat uit een rechthoekige paneeldeur met smeedijzeren rooster onder spitsbogige omlijsting. Op de hoeken aan de zuidzijde colonetten met bladkapiteel. In de oost- en westzijde een spitsbogig licht met glas-in-lood-vulling. De noordzijde is blind. De topgevels aan de noord- en zuidzijde dragen een geprofileerde afdeklijst. De zuidgevel wordt bekroond door een hardstenen kruis. De ingang wordt geflankeerd door florale motieven in laagreliëf. Boven de deur, op het spitsbogig veld, de inscriptie 'FAMILIE / MAAS-LEEN'. Boven de spitsbogige omlijsting 'DE DOOD IS DE WEG TOT HET LEVEN H. AMBR.' Het interieur bestaat uit een houten spitsbogig tongewelf, geblokte tegelvloer en altaartafel op consoles, staande op een sokkel. Tegen de noordwand een marmeren plaquette met het opschrift 'IN AFWACHTING / DER EEUWIGE VERRIJZENIS / RUSTEN HIER / DE ECHTELIEDEN / H. MAAS GEB. 10 JAN. 1819 OVERL. 22 FEBR 1883 / P.C. LEEN GEB. 4 NOV. 1821 OVERL. 26 AUG. 1890 / HUNNEN ZWAGER EN BROEDER / A.L. LEEN GEB. 8 MEI 1824 OVERL. 24 DEC. 1913 / HUNNE KINDEREN / J.J. MAAS GEB. 9 JUNI 1852 OVERL. 24 NOV. 1882 / J.A. Waardering.
Het grafmonument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de ontwikkeling van de katholieke grafcultuur, het is tevens van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van het grafmonument voor de katholieke elite. Het heeft kunsthistorisch belang als voorbeeld van het werk van het atelier Barette. Het is gaaf bewaard gebleven en typologisch zeldzaam. On the otherwise unprotected churchyard, which is situated on the site of the former medieval church that was demolished in the second half of the 19th century, there is a neogothic FUNERARY CHAPEL for the Maas-Leen family, made around 1883 by the firm Barette of Eindhoven.
Description.
A funerary chapel entirely of hardstone with rectangular groundplan on hardstone base with plinth. The chapel has a gabled roof covered with slate in Maas-style roofing. The entrance on the south side consists of a rectangular panelled door with wrought iron grille under a pointed-arch moulding. Small colonnettes with leafed capitals on the corners at the south side. On the east and west side a pointed-arch light with stained glass infill. The north side is blank. The gable fields on the north and south sides carry a moulded coping. The south facade is crowned by a hardstone cross. The entrance is flanked by floral motifs in low relief. Above the door, on the pointed-arch field, the inscription 'FAMILY / MAAS-LEEN'. Above the pointed-arch moulding 'DEATH IS THE PATH TO LIFE ST. AMBR.' The interior consists of a wooden pointed-arch barrel vault, tesselated tile floor and altar table on consoles, standing on a base. Against the north wall a marble plaque with the inscription 'IN ANTICIPATION / OF THE ETERNAL RESURRECTION / REST HERE / THE SPOUSES / H. MAAS BORN 10 JAN. 1819 DIED 22 FEBR. 1883 / P.C. LEEN BORN 4 NOV. 1821 DIED 26 AUG. 1890 / THEIR BROTHER-IN-LAW AND BROTHER / A.L. LEEN BORN 8 MAY 1824 DIED 24 DEC. 1913 / THEIR CHILDREN / J.J. MAAS BORN 9 JUNE 1852 DIED 24 NOV. 1882 / J.A.
