Inleiding
Aan de noordzijde van de Sarphatistraat in 1888 tot stand gekomen HERENHUIS naar ontwerp in Neo-Renaissance stijl van J.P.F. van Rossem & W.J. Vuyk in opdracht van T. Vorstius.
Omschrijving
Op een rechthoekige plattegrond tot stand gekomen en in baksteen opgetrokken gebouw bestaande uit een souterrain, een lage begane grond en twee verdiepingen met een schilddak met shingles en kroonlijst. Het pand is drie vensterassen breed. Rustica-zone ter hoogte van het souterrain. Twee kleine vensters achter traliewerk. Ingang in middelste travee over souterrain en bel-etage. Natuurstenen omlijsting van de ingang: gecanneleerde pilasters waarboven een fries met kroonlijst. Dubbele eikehouten deur met steek- en snijwerk en met deurlichten achter decoratief smeedijzeren traliewerk. Twee vensters ter weerszijden eveneens omlijst met natuursteen. Kozijnen achter decoratief smeedijzeren traliewerk. Eerste verdieping met balcon over gehele breedte van het pand. Decoratieve smeedijzeren balustrade. Balconvloer rust op gekoppelde sierconsoles. Dubbel openslaande balcondeuren met bovenlichten omlijst met gecanneleerde pilasters waarboven een fries met kroonlijst, de middelste balcondeur nog voorzien van een fronton met beeldhouwwerk in het tympaan. Guirlandes boven de twee buitenste balcondeuren. Tweede verdieping met eveneens vensteromlijsting. Dubbel openslaande ramen achter een kleine en laag aangebrachte sierijzeren borstwering. Onderdorpel van middelste venster rust op twee sierconsoles. Onder de kroonlijst een fries voorzien van decoraties. Kroonlijst wordt gedragen door sierconsoles en is voorzien van een mutulus met guttae. Drie dakkapellen afgesloten met frontons, waarvan de middelste segmentvormig. Dakschild aan bovenzijde voorzien van lijst.

A building erected on a rectangular ground plan and built in brick, consisting of a basement, a low ground floor and two storeys with a hipped roof with shingles and cornice. The building is three window bays wide. Rustica zone at the height of the basement. Two small windows behind grilles. Entrance in the middle bay over basement and piano nobile. Natural stone surround of the entrance: fluted pilasters above which a frieze with cornice. Double oak door with chasing and chiselled work and with door lights behind decorative wrought-iron grilles. Two windows either side likewise surrounded with natural stone. Frames behind decorative wrought-iron grilles. First storey with balcony across the full width of the building. Decorative wrought-iron balustrade. Balcony floor rests on coupled ornamental consoles. Double opening balcony doors with fanlights surrounded with fluted pilasters above which a frieze with cornice, the middle balcony door still provided with a pediment with sculptural work in the tympanum. Garlands above the two outer balcony doors. Second storey with likewise window surrounds. Double opening windows behind a small and low-placed ornamental iron parapet.
