Inleiding
Aan de noordzijde van de Sarphatistraat in 1888 tot stand gekomen HERENHUIS naar een ontwerp in Neo-Renaissance trant vermoedelijk in opdracht van A. van Wezel. De architect is onbekend.
Omschrijving
Op een rechthoekige plattegrond tot stand gekomen en in natuursteen opgetrokken herenhuis bestaande uit souterrain, een begane grond en twee verdiepingen en een schilddak met shingles. Het pand is drie vensterassen breed in een symmetrische opzet. De verdiepingen worden horizontaal gemarkeerd door afwaterende cordonlijsten. Souterrain ter breedte van twee traveeën (r) bekleed met rusticawerk. Twee toogvormige vensteropeningen met vensters achter ijzeren traliewerk. Bel-etage gebosseerd met toogvormige deuropening en twee vensteropeningen. Houten deur met twee smalle en gekoppelde, boogvormige lichten. Bovenlicht met kleine roedenverdeling. Diepliggende vensters met T-vormige ramen met bovenlichten. Eerste verdieping met aedicula-vensters met segmentvormig fronton en T-vormige ramen. Middelste vensteras heeft balcon met Frans venster en een met reliëf bewerkte balustrade van natuursteen. Balcon wordt geschraagd door twee sierconsoles. Muurvlak onder buitenste vensters voorzien van reliëfwerk. Tweede verdieping met rechthoekige van een omlijsting voorziene vensteropeningen. Diepliggende T-vormige vensters met bovenlichten. Boven de cordonlijst een fries van festoenen. Geprofileerde gootlijst aan de onderzijde voorzien van klossen, daarboven een gedecoreerde dakkapel in de middelste vensteras. Dakschild aan ovenzijde voorzien van geprofileerde lijst.

A townhouse erected on a rectangular ground plan and built in natural stone, consisting of a basement, a ground floor and two storeys and a hipped roof with shingles. The building is three window bays wide in a symmetrical arrangement. The storeys are marked horizontally by water-shedding drip mouldings. Basement extending the width of two bays (r) clad with rustication. Two arched window openings with windows behind iron grilles. Piano nobile rusticized with an arched door opening and two window openings. Wooden door with two narrow and coupled, arched lights. Fanlight with small glazing bars. Recessed windows with T-shaped frames with fanlights. First storey with aedicula windows with segmental pediment and T-shaped frames. The middle window bay has a balcony with French window and a relief-worked balustrade of natural stone. Balcony is supported by two ornamental consoles. Wall surface below outer windows provided with relief work. Second storey with rectangular window openings provided with a surround. Recessed T-shaped windows with fanlights. Above the drip moulding a frieze of festoons. Profiled gutter cornice on the underside provided with brackets, above it a decorated roof dormer in the middle window bay. Roof slope on the ovens side provided with profiled list.
