Inleiding
Aan de noordzijde van de Sarphatistraat in 1888 tot stand gekomen HERENHUIS naar ontwerp in Neo-Venetiaanse trant van Ed. Cuypers. N.B. In 1906 is het pand verbouwd door F. Kuipers t.b.v. Gazandela Mense. In 1909 vond er wederom een verbouwing plaats door J.C. van Meurs t.b.v. J. Speijker.
Omschrijving
Op een min of meer rechthoekige plattegrond gerealiseerd woonhuis bestaande uit souterrain, bel-etage, en drie verdiepingen onder een plat dak. Het pand ligt iets teruggerooid met ervoor een hek en een stoep. Het pand is voornamelijk in natuursteen opgetrokken; alleen in de ingangstravee is baksteen zichtbaar ter hoogte van de verdiepingen. De gevel is drie vensterassen breed in een asymmetrische opzet. Souterrain en bel-etage voorzien van rusticawerk. Het souterrain ligt ter breedte van de twee linker vensterassen. Het hek ervoor bestaat uit een sierijzeren hekwerk op een basement tussen natuurstenen posten. De posten zijn voorzien van een bolvormige opengewerkte bekroning van ijzer. Het trapportaal heeft een hardstenen stoep van vijf treden tussen twee natuurstenen posten en een balustrade. De entree met panelendeur en glas-in-lood bovenlicht is gevat tussen Ionische zuilen op hoge sokkels. De zuilen schragen een op de eerste verdieping geplaatst rond balcon met balustrade van kandelaberzuiltjes. Ter hoogte van bel-etage rechthoekige vensteropeningen met schuiframen. Eerste verdieping heeft een loggia achter een dubbele, met reliëfwerk bewerkte, boog op zuilen. Aan weerszijden van loggia Ionische pilasters. Balcondeur gevat tussen Ionische halfpilasters op brede gebosseerde lisenen. De halfpilasters dragen een kroonlijst. Loggia op tweede verdieping achter eveneens met reliëfwerk bewerkte boog met uitstekend balcon op bewerkte sierconsoles met gebeeldhouwde koppetjes. Loggia gevat tussen Ionische halfpilasters. Balustrade met kandelaberzuiltjes. In de rechtertravee Frans venster achter een borstwering. Derde verdieping met loggia achter arcade met drie gekoppelde en van reliëfwerk voorziene bogen op zuiltjes. Zuiltjes rusten op balustrade met kandelaberzuiltjes. Loggia ook hier geplaatst tussen Ionische pilasters. Rechtertravee met Frans venster tussen gebosseerde lisenen. Overstekende en ter hoogte van de ingangstravee risalerende gootlijst op consoles. Description
A residential building realized on a more or less rectangular ground plan consisting of basement, piano nobile, and three storeys under a flat roof. The property is set back slightly with a fence and a forecourt in front. The property is constructed mainly in natural stone; only in the entrance bay is brick visible at the level of the storeys. The facade is three window bays wide in an asymmetrical arrangement. Basement and piano nobile provided with rusticated work. The basement extends to the width of the two left window bays.
