Inleiding
Op de zuidelijke IJ-oever in 1919 opgetrokken SCHEEPVAARTKANTOOR naar een ontwerp van G.F. la Croix in een mengeling van Amsterdamse School en Nederlands-Indische stijlvormen. Het scheepvaartkantoor is gebouwd in opdracht van de N.V. J.G. Koppe's Scheepsagentuur.
Omschrijving
Houten cargadoorskantoor gebouwd op een rechthoekige plattegrond met een half open begane grond, een verdieping en een zadeldak. Er ligt een sterk architectonisch accent aan de landzijde van het gebouw. De kap is hier, geïnspireerd op de minankabau-bouwtrant schuin naar voren hellend uitgebouwd. Aan de waterzijde heeft de kap een schild. De begane grond is aan de westzijde open. Hier bevindt zich een reeks van vijf verjongende palen met uitkragende koppen, aan de oostzijde een smal bouwvolume met aan de landzijde een decoratieve houten toegangspartij tussen uitzwenkende consoles. De beschotdelen die in de vooroverhellende puntgevel in V-vorm zijn geplaatst aan weerszijden van een vertikale stijl en verder horizontaal toegepast, zijn vermoedelijk vastgezet op een stalen regelwerk. De onregelmatig geplaatste vensters zijn deels voorzien van een roedenverdeling deels met ruitvorm. Aan de landzijde is het walkantoor gedecoreerd met vlammende zaagmotieven die bij de rechte zijden uitsteken, alsook met smalle consoles onder het gekoppelde venster. Het voorover hellende dakvlak krijgt hier bovendien een extra accentdoormiddel van een lange vlaggenmast in vlaggenmasthouder.
Waardering
Voormalig cargadoorskantoor Koppe in bijzondere bouwstijl met gebruik van koloniale en expressionistische elementen van algemeen belang wegens architectuurhistorische waarde met name de op Nederlands-Indische stijlvormen geïnspireerde kap, alsmede van belang vanwege de bijzondere situering aan het IJ. Tevens van belang vanwege de zeldzaamheidswaarde.

Description
Wooden cargo broker's office built on a rectangular plan with a semi-open ground floor, one storey and a gabled roof. A strong architectural accent lies on the landside of the building. The roof truss is here, inspired by the Minangkabau building tradition, constructed at an angle inclining forwards. On the waterside the roof has a hipped end. The ground floor is open on the west side. Here there is a series of five tapering bollards with projecting heads, on the east side a narrow building volume with on the landside a decorative wooden entrance feature between swinging consoles. The boarded sections placed in V-form in the forward-inclining pointed gable on either side of a vertical post and further applied horizontally, are presumed to have been fixed to a steel framework. The irregularly placed windows are partly fitted with glazing bars partly with diamond-shaped panes. On the landside the cargo broker's office is decorated with flaming saw-tooth motifs which project at the straight sides, as well as with narrow consoles under the coupled window. The forward-inclining roof surface here furthermore receives additional emphasis by means of a long flagpole in a flagpole holder.
Valuation
Former Koppe cargo broker's office in exceptional building style with use of colonial and expressionistic elements of general importance on account of architectural-historical value in particular the roof inspired by Dutch-Indian style forms, as well as important on account of the exceptional situation on the IJ. Also important on account of its rarity value.
