Inleiding
Een in 1878-1880 tot stand gekomen STADSVILLA. Gebouwd in opdracht van de Amsterdamsche Omnibus Maatschappij. Ontworpen door de architect G.B. Salm in een eclectische stijl, waarbij classicistische kenmerken zijn gecombineerd met elementen van de Italiaanse renaissance.
Omschrijving Op een vrijwel vierkant grondplan tot stand gekomen stadsvilla met kelder, twee bouwlagen en een mezzanino onder afgeknot schilddak met flauw hellende, door pannen gedekte schilden en lijstwerk op de hoekkepers. Links twee schoorstenen. De drie traveeën brede symmetrische voorgevel is witgepleisterd op hardstenen plint (waarin keldervensters) en met een gekorniste kroonlijst afgesloten. Verder profilering, lijst, en consoles en vlak ornament onder de vensters van de begane grond. In oorsprong zesruits schuifvensters bij begane grond en eerste verdieping. Cassettes met halfrond ornament aan de bovenzijde; verder architraaf, guttae en triglief (uitsluitend aan de zijde van de voorgevel). Hierboven getrapte architraaf en uitkragende kroonlijst op klossen. De centrale ingangspartij heeft een portiek met houten paneeldeur en licht getoogd bovenlicht. Hardstenen posten en hoge lambrizering in portiek. Twee met onder andere leeuwekoppen rijk geornamenteerde voluutvormige consoles dragen de bodemplaat met kroonlijst van het kleine centrale balcon op de verdieping. Balcon met siersmeedijzeren hekwerk. Dubbele openslaande balcondeuren met geleed bovenlicht boven kalf. Aan weerszijden een smalle pilaster met eenvoudig kapiteel en element van een architraaf of fries. Naast de pilasters een liseen met afsluitend element van kroonlijst. Hiertussen een fronton met leeg timpaan. Deze partij aan weerszijden geflankeerd door venster met benedendorpel op geornamenteerde consoles. Tussen de consoles een gevelsteen met florale decoratie. Lijstwerk en kroonlijst als afsluiting boven de bovendorpel. Architraaf met guttae als afsluiting van dit geveldeel. Op het niveau van de mezzanino worden de vensterassen van de voorgevel voortgezet met steeds twee gekoppelde kleine vierkante vensters. Tussen en naast deze vensters verdiept geplaatste cassettes. Met inbegrip van de genoemde bij de hoekpilasters toont de mezzanino vier trigliefen. De getrapte architraaf met de uitkragende kroonlijst op klossen vormt ook hier de rechte gevelbeeindiging. Bij de trigliefen - zowel in het midden van de voorgevel als aan de hoeken - risaleert de kroonlijst. De zijgevels hebben aan de kant van de Plantage Middenlaan een monumentaler uitwerking dan de daarachter gelegen delen door middel van hoekpilasters. Op de overgang van het meer monumentale deel naar de eenvoudiger daarachter gelegen zijgeveldelen bevindt zich een liseen. Aan de bovenzijde een uitwerking overeenkomstig de mezzanino aan de voorzijde. Onbewerkt fries, verdere kroonlijst slechts bij de risalerende hoekdelen voorzien van ondersteunende klossen. Imitatie van gebruik van natuursteen door middel van horizontale groeven in het pleisterwerk. Verdere geveldelen eveneens gepleisterd en voorzien van lijstwerk.

Description A town villa created on an almost square ground plan with basement, two storeys and a mezzanino under a truncated hipped roof with gently sloping, tile-covered hipped ends and moulding on the corner rafters. On the left two chimneys. The symmetrical front facade, three bays wide, is whitewashed on a hard stone plinth (containing basement windows) and finished with a moulded cornice. Further moulding, list, and consoles and flat ornament below the windows of the ground floor. Originally six-pane sash windows at ground floor and first floor. Cassettes with semi-circular ornament at the top; further architrave, guttae and triglyphs (exclusively on the side of the front facade). Above this stepped architrave and projecting cornice on corbels. The central entrance section has a portico with wooden panelled door and slightly arched fanlight. Hard stone posts and high wainscoting in portico. Two richly ornamented volute-shaped consoles decorated with inter alia lion heads support the base plate with cornice of the small central balcony on the upper floor. Moulding and cornice as finish above the upper sill. Architrave with guttae as finish of this facade section. At the level of the mezzanino the window axes of the front facade are continued with always two coupled small square windows. Between and beside these windows recessed placed cassettes. Including the mentioned ones at the corner pilasters, the mezzanino shows four triglyphs. The stepped architrave with the projecting cornice on corbels also forms the straight facade termination here. At the triglyphs - both in the middle of the front facade and at the corners - the cornice projects.
The side facades facing Plantage Middenlaan have a more monumental treatment than the parts behind them by means of corner pilasters.
