Inleiding
Een in 1872 tot stand gekomen FAZANTERIE (20), ook 'Oude Kweek' genoemd ter onderscheiding van de naastgelegen en vrijwel gelijkvormige 'Nieuwe Kweek' uit 1888, onderdeel van het Artis-complex. De fazanterie ligt in de oostelijke helft van de tuin, ten zuiden van de middenas.
Omschrijving
Dierenverblijf op langgerekt U-vormig grondplan met lage bebouwing aan weerszijden van een smalle met gaas gedekte tussengang. Bebouwing onder plat dak. Witgeschilderde gevels met rozetten en platte ornamenten. Lange zijde heeft zes traveeën met brede en licht getoogde poorten waarin toegang tot nachtverblijf. De poorten zijn grotendeels gedicht met beschot waarin kleinere toegangen. De korte gevel aan de zuidzijde heeft vier traveeën. Tot de grenzen van het perk aan de lange zijde zes kooien met gaas op stenen voet. Aan de korte zijde vier van dergelijke kooien. De korte zijde aan de noordzijde heeft de eenvoudige toegang tot de smalle tussengang voor de dierverzorgers. Description
Animal enclosure on an elongated U-shaped ground plan with low buildings on either side of a narrow gauzed-over passage. Buildings under a flat roof. Whitewashed facades with rosettes and flat ornaments. Long side has six bays with broad and slightly arched doors in which access to night shelter. The doors are largely blocked with boarding in which smaller entrances. The short gable on the south side has four bays. Up to the boundaries of the plot on the long side six cages with gauzed sides on stone base. On the short side four such cages.
