Inleiding
In oorsprong als buitenhuis opgetrokken gebouw, naar de toenmalige eigenaar het Masmanhuisje genoemd. Vervolgens geïncorpereerd binnen het Artis-complex en omstreeks 1840 tot ronde VOLIERE (21)verbouwd. Het gebouw ligt op de oostelijke helft van het park ten zuiden van de middenas.
Omschrijving
De volière is met één bouwlaag opgetrokken op een samengesteld rechthoekig grondplan onder plat dak met eenvoudige gootlijst. Aan de NO-zijde een uitbouw onder tongewelf. In deze uitbouw een getoogd venster met roedenverdeling. Aan de drie ongelede zijden van het gebouw, alsmede aan de uitbouw bevinden zich ijzeren volièrekooien met bovenzijde in de vorm van een tongewelf. De vier armen staan middels andere volièrekooien met elkaar in verbinding.

Description
The aviary is constructed with one storey on a composite rectangular floor plan under a flat roof with simple gutter moulding. On the NE side an extension under a barrel vault. In this extension a vaulted window with glazing bars. On the three unbraced sides of the building, as well as on the extension, are iron aviary cages with the top in the form of a barrel vault. The four arms are connected to each other by means of other aviary cages.

Aviary of general importance as a historical-functional component of the Artis complex and on account of the associated earlier building history.
