Inleiding
Het WOONHUIS Rogstraat 1, oorspronkelijk café, later burgemeesterswoning en woning annex beschuitfabriek Van Zuylen, is een pand uit ca. 1870. Het object ligt markant op een straathoek tegenover de R.K. Sint Sebastiaankerk en klooster, pastorie, scholen en parochiehuis aan de Kloosterstraat. Niet in de bescherming begrepen is de witgeschilderde haakse aanbouw achter het huis, waarvan na de Tweede Wereldoorlog de straatgevel voor een groot deel is weggebroken.
Omschrijving
Het woonhuis heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond. Het tweelaags hoekpand met vijf vensterassen is opgetrokken in handvorm baksteen en heeft een hardstenen dorpellijst en gietijzeren schotelankers. Centraal in de gevel een kussenpaneeldeur en bovenlicht met levensboom in gestucte, geprofileerde, geschilderde omlijsting met kuif. De deur wordt geflankeerd door gietijzeren lantaarns. De zesruits schuifvensters hebben eveneens een dergelijke omlijsting. De dorpels van de vensters beneden worden geschoord door telkens twee beschilderde consoles. Boven treft men vierruits openslaande vensters aan, met nieuwe smeedijzeren raamhekjes. In de zijgevel op de verdieping een laaddeur met daarboven een hijsbalk. De gevel eindigt met een muizetandlijst, waarboven zich het geknikte schilddak verheft, belegd met rode muldenpannen.
Waardering
Het woonhuis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, namelijk de opeenvolgende wijziging van functies zoals die in de bouwsubstantie tot uitdrukking komt, het is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het woonhuis. Introduction
The DWELLING HOUSE Rogstraat 1, originally a café, later a mayor's residence and dwelling together with Van Zuylen biscuit factory, is a building from around 1870. The object is located prominently on a street corner opposite the Roman Catholic Sint Sebastiaankerk and monastery, rectory, schools and parish house on Kloosterstraat. Not included in the protection is the whitewashed angled extension behind the house, of which the street facade has been largely demolished after the Second World War.
Description
The dwelling house has a rectangular floor plan. The two-storey corner building with five window bays is built in handmade brick and has a sandstone plinth strip and cast-iron decorative wall anchors. Centrally in the facade a cushion-panel door and fanlight with tree of life in stuccoed, profiled, painted moulding with a hood. The door is flanked by cast-iron lanterns. The six-pane sash windows also have similar moulding. The sills of the lower windows are supported by two painted consoles each. Above are four-pane casement windows, with new wrought-iron window grilles. In the side facade on the upper storey a loading door with a hoist beam above it. The facade ends with a dentil moulding, above which the broken hipped roof rises, clad with red Dutch tiles.
Valuation
The dwelling house is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a distinctive expression of socio-economic development, namely the successive change of functions as reflected in the building fabric, it is also of importance as an example of the typological development of the dwelling house.
