Omschrijving
Inleiding
Voormalige R.K.

Description
Introduction
Former R.C. RECTORY of Huisseling, built in 1878 by vicar Van Gils, from Tilburg. The block-shaped building stands to the south-east of the R.C. Sint Lambertuskerk, next to some farmhouses. Around 1910 the interior was partially remodelled by vicar Franken, during which the central hallway acquired its present appearance. Since ca. 1985 the rectory has been in use as a dwelling house. In the eastern gable of the rear extension a window was enlarged around 1994.
Description
The building has a rectangular floor plan with rear extension and is set somewhat back from the building line of the Grotestraat, which is dominated in this location by farmhouses. It is a two-storey building of clay bricks under a hipped roof, with scalloped slates in Maas bond. Distinctive is that the rectory was built with a cavity wall. The front elevation has five window bays.
Central on the ground floor there is a panelled door in a portico, with leaded glass fanlight. The arched T-sash windows, furnished with plastered moulded surrounds, likewise have leaded glass fanlights. The elevations are furnished with corner pilasters, while on the ground floor the sill course is executed in hardstone, as are the sills of the windows on the first floor and the plinth course. On the rear side an outbuilding with a balcony with open-work brick balustrade.
On the roof two tapering chimneys, between which an iron roof-ridge finial with bell. The rear extension consists of an elongated single-storey building under a gabled roof, which connects the rectory with the church. Wrought-iron arrowhead fence with two gates and brick octagonal star-shaped corner pillars, furnished with artificial stone base and cap. The fence separates the front garden from the street.
The interior has, among other things, neo-rococo stucco ceilings, a marble fireplace and oak wainscoting. All T-windows are furnished with leaded glass panels, on which edifying inscriptions are painted and saints are depicted (including Willibrord, Eligius, Aloysius and Lambert). The kitchen has a tiled fireplace, the scullery a smoke-house. In the cellar there is a water reservoir, which also serves as a cooler for the adjoining wine cellar.
Valuation
The rectory is of general significance. It has cultural-historical significance as a distinctive expression of the development of Catholicism in the south and is also of significance for the typological development of the rectory. It has architectural-historical value because of the style and detailing and has building-historical significance because of the presence of cavity walls. The building has ensemble values because of its special significance through its location near the church, closely connected with the development of the church village. The building is of significance because of the high degree of integrity.
