ROOMS KATHOLIEKE KERK van St. Sebastiaan, bestaande uit een 14e eeuwse toren, vlak opgaande, het muurwerk met blindnissen verlevendigd; een gotisch koor uit het einde van de 15e eeuw, en een neogotisch schip, in 1907 gebouwd door C. Franssen ter vervanging van een veel lager schip.
Het uitwendig sober behandelde koor is overkluisd door een rijk netgewelf waarvan de schalken neerkomen op gebeeldhouwde vergulde koppen. Dit gewelf toont een rijke, zwaar opgehaalde, beschildering met heiligen-figuren, passie-emblemen en rankornament, schenking van Philips van Cleve Ravenstein (overleden 1521), wiens wapen in een der gewelfschelpen prijkt. Het grotendeels neogotische schip is driebeukig, met bundelpijlers en triforium. Tegen de oostwand der zijbeuken komen de gewelfribben evenals in het koor neer op gebeeldhouwde vergulde koppen.
De kerk bezit een 13e eeuwse hardstenen doopvont, waarvan de met koppen en evangelistensymbolen versierde kuip rust op een vernieuwde, door vier zuiltjes omgeven schacht en voet.
In het torenportaal een 15e eeuwse Nederlandse Calvariegroep, oorspronkelijk tot een triomfbalk behorende, gepolychromeerd (een kopie op de neogotische triomfbalk voor het koor, een tweede kopie op het kerkhof). Klein gepolychromeerd beeld van St. Sebastiaan uit plm 1500. Barok Mariabeeld uit plm 1700. Beeld van St. Anna te drieën, gepolychromeerd, plm 1500, afkomstig uit de St. Annakapel van Groot- Koolwijk. Eikenhouten klokkenstoel met klok van G. de Hintum, 1432, diam. 124,5 cm. Description
ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH of St. Sebastiaan, consisting of a 14th century tower, flat rising, its masonry enlivened with blind niches; a Gothic choir from the end of the 15th century, and a Neo-Gothic nave, built in 1907 by C. Franssen to replace a much lower nave.
The externally soberly treated choir is vaulted by a richly decorated net vault of which the ribs come down on carved gilt heads. This vault shows rich, heavily raised, painting with figures of saints, passion emblems and foliage ornament, a gift of Philips van Cleve Ravenstein (died 1521), whose coat of arms shines in one of the vault shells. The largely Neo-Gothic nave is three-aisled, with bundle pillars and triforium. Against the east wall of the side aisles the vault ribs, as in the choir, come down on carved gilt heads.
The church possesses a 13th century stone baptismal font, of which the basin decorated with heads and evangelistic symbols rests on a renewed shaft and base surrounded by four small columns.
In the tower portal a 15th century Dutch Calvary group, originally belonging to a triumphal arch, polychrome (a copy on the Neo-Gothic triumphal arch before the choir, a second copy in the churchyard).
