Inleiding
De R.K. PASTORIE, gelegen direct ten noordwesten van de R.K. Sint Luciakerk (1735, Rijksmonument), is gebouwd omstreeks 1900 in neo-renaissancestijl. Het betreft een statig blokvormig pand, gelegen aan een smalle straat in de voormalige vestingstad.
Omschrijving
Het tweelaags pand onder platdak met schilden heeft zes vensterassen, waarvan de westelijke twee iets risaleren. In de risaliet, die door een topgevel wordt bekroond, bevindt zich de ingangspartij. De muren zijn opgetrokken in baksteen, met hardstenen stoep, plint, trap, dorpellijst en dorpels. De gevel is verder geleed door kalkstenen banden. Ook alle vensters, voorzien van T-ramen en houten rolluiken, hebben een kalkstenen omlijsting, waarin florale motieven zijn gebeiteld. Boven de geprofileerde lateien van de vensters bakstenen ontlastingsbogen. In een diep portiek bevindt zich een vleugelpaneeldeur met smeedijzeren deurrooster en bovenlicht. De topgevel van de risaliet, die aan beide zijden wordt geflankeerd door een overhoeks geplaatste pinakel, bekroond met een sierbol, heeft centraal een gekoppeld rondboogvenster. In de boogvullingen van deze vensters zijn in reliëf florale motieven afgebeeld, goudkleurig beschilderd tegen een rood fond. De topgevel, ingesnoerd via klauwstukken, wordt bekroond door een stenen kruis. De schilden van het platdak alsmede het zadeldak achter de topgevel zijn voorzien van leien in maasdekking. De twee bakstenen dakkapellen van de straatgevel hebben trapgevels, voorzien van natuurstenen aanzetstukken en dekplaten.
In de hal een geometrisch ingedeeld stucplafond. Het pand is onderkelderd. Van belang is de tuinmuur, behorende bij de pastorie, die het perceel aan de achterzijde van de Brouwerijstraat scheidt. Deze deels in handvorm baksteen opgemetselde bakstenen muur met ezelsrug omgrenst een lager gelegen terrein van de eerste stadsomwalling en is tegenwoordig in gebruik als moestuin.
Waardering
De pastorie is van algemeen belang. Het gebouw heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de ontwikkeling van het katholicisme in het zuiden en is tevens van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van de pastorie. Het heeft architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege de stijl en de detaillering, die waardigheid en distantie uitstralen. Het gebouw heeft ensemblewaarden vanwege de situering naast de kerk en is nauw verbonden met de ontwikkeling van het stadje. Het geheel is gaaf bewaard gebleven.

The R.K. PRESBYTERY, located directly north-west of the R.K. Sint Luciakerk (1735, national monument), was built around 1900 in neo-Renaissance style. It is a dignified block-shaped building, located on a narrow street in the former fortified town.
Description
The two-storey building under a hipped roof has six window bays, of which the westerly two project slightly. In the risalit, which is crowned by a stepped gable, is the entrance section. The walls are constructed in brickwork, with stone steps, plinth, staircase, cornice and lintels. The facade is further articulated by limestone bands. All windows, provided with T-windows and wooden roller shutters, also have a limestone surround, in which floral motifs are carved. Above the moulded lintels of the windows are brick relieving arches. In a deep porch is a panelled door with wrought-iron door grille and fanlight. The stepped gable of the risalit, which is flanked on both sides by a diagonally placed pinnacle, crowned with an ornamental ball, has a coupled round-arched window at its centre. In the spandrels of these windows are floral motifs displayed in relief, painted in gold against a red background. The stepped gable, tapered via claw-stones, is crowned by a stone cross. The hipped roof and the gabled roof behind the stepped gable are covered with slates in Dutch bond. The two brick roof dormers of the street facade have stepped gables, provided with natural stone base pieces and cover plates.
In the hall a geometrically laid-out stucco ceiling. The building is cellared. Of importance is the garden wall belonging to the presbytery, which separates the plot at the rear of the Brouwerijstraat. This brick wall, partly constructed in hand-moulded brick with a half-round coping, encloses a lower-lying section of the first town wall and is currently used as a vegetable garden.
Valuation
The presbytery is of general importance. The building has cultural-historical importance as a particular expression of the development of Catholicism in the south and is furthermore of importance for the typological development of the presbytery. It has architectural-historical value because of the style and the detailing, which express dignity and distance. The building has ensemble values because of its location next to the church and is closely connected with the development of the town. The whole has been well preserved.
