Inleiding

Description
Introduction
Former TOLL HOUSE from 1866, built in Eclectic style to replace an older toll house. The pand is situated on the Delftweg parallel to the Rijn Schiekanaal.
For the maintenance of the road along the Vliet toll was levied from the 17th century by the cities of Delft and The Hague. In 1863 Delft had the existing toll keeper's dwelling replaced by the present one. The crowned municipal coat of arms of Delft above the entrance refers to the municipal toll area. The toll house lost its function in 1931 when toll collection was abolished and it is the last preserved toll house in Rijswijk and surroundings.
N.B. At the time of the restoration of the pand (circa 1992), when the facade was stripped of plaster, an indication of a tympanum above the entrance section became visible.
Description
Two-storey pand on a rectangular ground plan under a hipped roof with Dutch smoked tiles and zinc corner brackets. Against the rear facade (east) is an extension under two roof slopes, both covered with smoked Dutch tiles. The facades are white rendered and provided with a rendered, grey-painted plinth, a string course and profile mouldings between the windows.
The front facade (west) has three bays of which the right projects and is closed off by a roof slope, lying lower than the roofline, with zinc shingles. This risalit contains the entrance within a profiled round arch with keystone. The right-angled panelled door with two-light window is located under a round-arched field in which the coat of arms of Delft is placed. To the left of the entrance are two arched six-pane sash windows and in the main story two mezzanine windows are incorporated.
In the right side facade (south) is a door with two-light window and to the right of it a six-pane sash window. On the upper storey breaking through the string course is a six-pane sash window.
The left side facade (north) has a six-pane sash window on the ground floor.
The rear facade has on the upper storey two windows but is largely occupied by the single-storey extension in which a door with windows and a double terrace door with windows is placed. In both side facades of the extension a multi-pane window.
