Inleiding
AANLEG als onderdeel van het complex Algemene begraafplaats, op een verhoogd terrein aan de Sir Winston Churchilllaan, in 1916 uitgevoerd naar ontwerp van de tuinarchitect L.A. Springer in Gemengde Tuinstijl. In 1935/'36 werd de begraafplaats spiegelbeeldvormig verdubbeld. L.A. Springer (1855-1940) werkte als tuinarchitect aan het eind van de 19de en het begin van de 20ste eeuw en raakte vooral bekend met zijn ontwerpen voor parken en tuinen.
N.B. In 1949/1950 werd de begraafplaats een tweede keer uitgebreid, wegens de leeftijd en de op zichzelf staande aanleg die niet aansluit op het oudere deel, is de na-oorlogse uitbreiding (de noordelijke helft omvattend) voor bescherming uitgesloten.
Omschrijving
Verhoogd gelegen begraafplaats met een rechthoekige plattegrond en een symmetrisch assenpatroon met halfronde en rechte paden. Piramidaal gesnoeide meelbesbomen accentueren het assenstelsel dat is ingevuld met diverse volwassen bomen met verschillende kleuren en bladstructuren (beuken, taxus, prunus, oost-indische kers, gladitia, ceder, coniferen, etc.). Verder veel zorgvuldig vormgegeven grafzerken en familiegraven van onder meer vooraanstaande Rijswijkse families.
Waardering
De begraafplaats uit 1916 met uitbreiding uit 1935/1936 is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van een begraafplaats uit het eerste kwart van de 20e eeuw en een goed daarbij aansluitende uitbreiding.

Introduction
Layout as part of the complex General Cemetery, on elevated terrain on Sir Winston Churchilllaan, executed in 1916 after a design by landscape architect L.A. Springer in Mixed Garden style. In 1935/36 the cemetery was doubled in mirror image. L.A. Springer (1855-1940) worked as a landscape architect at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century and became especially known for his designs for parks and gardens.
N.B. In 1949/1950 the cemetery was extended a second time; because of the period and the self-contained layout which does not connect to the older part, the post-war extension (comprising the northern half) is excluded from protection.
Description
Elevated cemetery with a rectangular plan and a symmetrical axial pattern with semicircular and straight paths. Pyramidally clipped medlar trees accentuate the axis system which is filled in with various mature trees with different colours and foliage structures (beeches, yews, prunus, Indian cherry, gladitia, cedar, conifers, etc.). Furthermore many carefully designed gravestones and family graves including those of prominent Rijswijk families.
