Inleiding
KAPEL, gebouwd in 1911 op de plek waar van oudsher een kapel heeft gestaan (mogelijk zeventiende eeuwse oorsprong). De kapel ligt op de hoek van het Kruiseind met de Deel, aan de oude structuur van Gemert.
Omschrijving
De kapel heeft een vierkante plattegrond en is uitgevoerd in witte cementsteen, rood gevoegd. De plint van het geheel steekt iets uit en is gepleisterd. Aan de bovenzijde is een muizentand aangebracht. In één van de zijden is een marmeren gevelsteen geplaatst met opschrift "DE EERSTE STEEN/GELEGD DOOR/MARIA CHRISTINA/PENNINGS/9 JUNI 1911/D.G" In elk van de vier zijden is een spitsboognis uitgespaard met rode cementstenen afzaten. In de nissen, wit gestuct, zijn recent moderne beelden geplaatst van St. Joris en de draak, St. Jan en een gekruisigde Christus. De nissen zijn in de huidige toestand afgesloten met glas.
Het kapelletje wordt bekroond door een koperen tentdak met spits, de hoeken zijn voorzien van smeedijzeren pirons.
Waardering
De kapel is van algemeen belang. Zij heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als uitdrukking van geestelijk leven en is juist door haar uiterste eenvoud kenmerkend voor Gemert als bedevaartsoord. Zij heeft ensemblewaarde door de plaats in het straatbeeld en als onderdeel van de reeds eerder beschermde oudere kapellenreeks in Gemert. Het geheel is gaaf bewaard gebleven.

CHAPEL, built in 1911 on the spot where a chapel has stood from time immemorial (possibly seventeenth-century origin). The chapel is situated on the corner of the Kruiseind with the Deel, on the old structure of Gemert.
Description
The chapel has a square plan and is executed in white cement stone, red-jointed. The plinth of the whole projects slightly and is plastered. At the top a mouse-tooth has been installed. In one of the sides a marble facade stone has been placed with the inscription "THE FIRST STONE/LAID BY/MARIA CHRISTINA/PENNINGS/9 JUNE 1911/D.G" In each of the four sides a pointed-arch niche has been cut out with red cement stone mouldings. In the niches, white stuccoed, recently modern figures have been placed of St. George and the dragon, St. John and a crucified Christ. The niches in their present condition are closed with glass.
The small chapel is crowned by a copper tent roof with spire; the corners are provided with wrought-iron pyrons.
Valuation
The chapel is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as an expression of spiritual life and is precisely because of its utmost simplicity characteristic of Gemert as a pilgrimage destination. It has ensemble value through its position in the streetscape and as part of the already previously protected older series of chapels in Gemert. The whole has been preserved intact.
