Omschrijving
(onderdeel II)
Omschrijving

Description
(component II)
Description
To the right of the school, adjoining the street, the DWELLING HOUSE was built. It is a single-storey block-shaped building under a flat roof covered with roof slates. The front facade is three bays wide and provided with a central risalit with a stepped gable, crowned by an ornamental vase.
The facade is executed in brick and decorated as the school. The central risalit has a band with mouse-tooth pattern.
The entrance consists of a wooden panelled door with stained glass fanlight featuring a representation with coat of arms and banner with the inscription SOLI DEO GLORIA. On either side are shuttered six-pane windows under basket-handle arches. The arch spandrels are filled with tiles featuring floral motifs. In the gable top is a T-window, above it a circular shape with plastered field in which the year 1891 is indicated. The side facade likewise has shuttered six-pane windows under basket-handle arches, the arch spandrels are on one side filled with polychrome tilework, on the other side (facing the school) polychrome brick mosaic is applied. The windows are provided with hard stone sub-sills.
On the front and left side are two roof dormers placed in the roof plane. The design corresponds with the roof dormers of the school, although fanlights do not contain stained glass.
Against the rear facade a small extension has been placed, this adjoins the side facade of the school. A covering of wood with corrugated sheeting is situated against the remainder of the rear facade.
In the interior the original layout of a central corridor with a number of rooms on either side has been maintained. Various elements from the fitting such as the black and white marble tile floor in the corridor, the wooden wainscoting and oak staircase with metal balusters have been preserved. At the end of the corridor on the ground floor is a door with stained glass fanlight featuring a representation of a Madonna.
To the right of the corridor the toilet with original tilework consisting of white glazed tiles with blue lily motif in the corners.
Valuation
The whole is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value because of its original function and characterizes the spiritual development in Gemert as an educational centre of the Peel. It has importance because of the memory of the once flourishing educational system of the Latin schools. It has architectural-historical value as an example of a school building in a mixture of stylistic forms. It has been preserved intact and as an example of a former Latin school is extremely rare.
