Inleiding
Tussen Westzijde en Vaart gesitueerde UITBREIDING uit 1931 van de in 1916 gebouwde BISCUITFABRIEK. Deze fabriek is tevens in 1924, 1929, 1935, 1950 (hoogbouw) en 1977 uitgebreid. De uitbreiding uit 1931 is naar ontwerp van P. Molenaar uit 1930 opgetrokken en maakt deel uit van het fabriekscomplex "Verkade". De uitbreiding bestaat uit een tweelaags hoekgebouw met watertoren, gebouwd in zakelijke trant. De bescherming beperkt zich tot deze twee onderdelen van de biscuitfabriek.
Omschrijving
Op rechthoekig grondplan opgetrokken onderdeel van de biscuitfabriek, bestaande uit een tweelaags hoekgebouw met sheddak en een tegen de noordzijde daarvan gebouwde watertoren met sprinklerinstallatie. Hoekgebouw en watertoren hebben een betonskelet, met in gele baksteen opgetrokken muurwerk. Het hoekgebouw heeft aan zuid-, west- en oostzijde stalen meerruitsvensters op beide bouwlagen. De oostzijde heeft een dubbele transportdeur onder overstek. De hoog opgaande watertoren staat teruggerooid ten opzichte van de voorzijde (O) van het hoekgebouw. De op rechthoekig grondplan gebouwde watertoren heeft in de schacht smalle verticale lichtstroken: de oost- en westzijde elk drie, de noord- en zuidzijde elk één. Onder de stalen vensterreeks bovenin de toren is een omgaand balkon met aan oost- en westzijde in grote letters de naam Verkade.
Waardering
In 1931 gebouwd onderdeel van de biscuitfabriek, van algemeen belang wegens cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde als goed ontworpen voorbeeld van fabrieksarchitectuur uit het Interbellum, in Nieuw-zakelijke trant. Het genoemde onderdeel heeft ensemble- en situationele waarde als historisch-functioneel en beeldbepalend onderdeel van het fabriekscomplex "Verkade", met name vanwege de markante watertoren.

Component of the biscuit factory erected on a rectangular plan, consisting of a two-storey corner building with shed roof and a water tower with sprinkler installation built against its north side. Corner building and water tower have a concrete skeleton, with masonry raised in yellow brick. The corner building has on the south, west and east sides steel multi-pane windows on both storeys. The east side has a double freight door under an overhang. The tall water tower is set back relative to the front (E) of the corner building. The water tower built on a rectangular plan has in the shaft narrow vertical light strips: the east and west sides each with three, the north and south sides each with one. Below the steel window row at the top of the tower is a surrounding balcony with on the east and west sides in large letters the name Verkade.
