Inleiding
Op het driehoekige plein Berg bevindt zich naast de eeuwenoude linde een natuurstenen MONUMENT ter ere van Vincent van Gogh, vervaardigd door Hildo Krop in 1932.
Omschrijving
Het monument bestaat uit een uit zeven delen samengestelde gescharreerde molensteen, waarop een gebosseerd, asymmetrisch opstaand gedeelte geplaatst is. De molensteen rust op een sokkel van zeven stenen. Op de rand van de molensteen staat de inscriptie: "In dit dorp werkte Vincent van Gogh dec. 1883-nov. 1885". In het enigszins excentrisch geplaatste opstaande deel is het goudkleurig geschilderde symbool voor de zon gehakt.
Waardering
Het monument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van de band tussen Nuenen en de kunstenaar Vincent van Gogh, zoals deze in het interbellum herdacht werd en is tevens van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van het herinneringsmonument. Het heeft kunsthistorisch belang als voorbeeld van het werk van Hildo Krop. The monument consists of a mill stone composed of seven parts and scarfed together, on which a bossed, asymmetrically rising element is placed. The mill stone rests on a base of seven stones. On the edge of the mill stone is the inscription: "In this village Vincent van Gogh worked Dec. 1883-Nov. 1885". In the somewhat eccentrically placed rising element the gold-coloured painted symbol for the sun is carved.

The monument is of general interest. It has cultural-historical value as a distinctive expression of the bond between Nuenen and the artist Vincent van Gogh, as this was commemorated in the interwar period, and is also of significance for the typological development of the commemorative monument.
