Dorpsstraat 24

Inleiding.

Dorpsstraat 24

Introduction.

The RECTORY acquired its current mass in 1861. Originally it was a single-storey building under a gabled roof. In the brickwork bond at the corners decorative voussoirs are visible: a bricklaying method that was used very long in North Brabant. The front facade is in Eclectic style. The attached building, possibly a former sexton's house, dates from 1893.

Description.

The two-storey building has five bays and is symmetrical in layout.

The ground plan is rectangular. The building is constructed of handmade brick which is plastered in ashlar block form on the front and painted white; on the side facades straight ornamental wall anchors project. It has a half-hipped roof with slate tiles in Rens covering. On the ground floor are multi-pane sash windows with profiled stucco framing and hoods. The sills are of ashlar. In the middle is the panelled door with fanlight and elongated decorative ironwork grilles in the upper panel. Around the door the same finish as the windows. The corners of the building have alternating rusticated blocks and diamond heads. The front facade is finished with a brick gutter resting on volute consoles. The right and left side facades are left blind except for a four-pane attic window. The rear facade is partly altered, including through the construction of a balcony around 1960.

Behind the rectory is a large garden with various deciduous trees. The layout has been changed several times.

To the left of the building stands the attached part placed transversely with a gabled roof on which black improved Dutch tiles. The handmade brick is painted white on the front. In the facade a door, a six-pane window and a four-pane attic window, all placed under round arches.

Both components have a front garden that is screened from the road by an iron railing with arrowhead motif.

Valuation.

The rectory with extension is of general importance. The building has cultural-historical importance as a distinctive expression of the development of Catholicism in the south and is also of importance as an example of the typological development of the village rectory in the nineteenth century. It has architectural-historical importance through the style and detailing that reflects the way in which current styles were adopted in the countryside to increase representativity and character. It is also of importance for its building history. It has ensemble values because of its distinctive location, connected with the development of the church village. It has been well preserved.
