Omschrijving
Inleiding.

Description
Introduction.
The LOWER SCHOOL was built around 1920 in Neo-Baroque style and was renovated and extended in the nineteen-thirties and nineteen-fifties. The two school buildings stand in an L-shape, thus leaving space for a schoolyard. The short gable facing the street has been extended with a single-storey extension under a lean-to roof. The rear gables are almost entirely hidden from view by later extensions of classrooms.
Description.
The two single-storey school buildings are constructed of machine-made brick and have gabled roofs with red improved Dutch roof tiles. These gabled roofs are wedged between inward and outward curving gable ends with sparing fields that follow the main form. The building that runs parallel to the street has oval lights in the gable ends with small glazing bars. The brickwork of the plinth consists of alternating bands of red and black. Above the windows, the arched black-red courses are accentuated by a black course of headers. The window division consists of three groups of three. They are bell-shaped and sash windows with small glazing bars and hardstone sills.
The two buildings are connected by a low intermediate section in which the entrance is located. The building that is placed perpendicular to the street has two nine-pane windows and a round ornamental light in the gable end. The original glazed windows on the ground floor have disappeared behind the extension under a lean-to roof from approximately 1970.
On the long side there are five windows and a door between mortared lesenes. The original windows, identical to those described above, were altered around 1950 to steel examples.
Valuation.
The school is of general importance. The building has cultural-historical importance as an example of cultural and spiritual development, namely the development of education in the early twentieth century. It is also of importance as an example of the typological development of the school building. From an architectural-historical perspective, it is important because of its style and the exceptionally rich detailing for a rural school. It has ensemble values because of its location, linked with the development of the village. It is valuable because of the integrity of its interior and exterior.
